Thought about Aliya lately?
AirTime and Veev are thinking about it very seriously.
The Frum Female Struggle thinks about Israel all the time.
The Must Gum Addict from the Five Towns dreams about Israel...and thats a good step in the right direction.
BEC from New York states it clearly in her profile: "I miss eretz israel. Not a day goes by that i am not reminded--either by the way the light shines in that early morning where everything seems pink or in the afternoon where everything is bathed in an orange glow, or right before a storm when the sky turns dark, the world brightens, the colours are heightened and i know that i am almost there, and i hear the wisps and sighs of jerusalem calling, calling, and i can almost touch her."
Phish has already opened his Aliya file with the shaliach.

Wherever I am, my blog turns towards Eretz Yisrael
I've blogged about aliyah a bit...
ReplyDeleteMy file is approved and is waiting for me in the Shaliach's office. Now it's personal matters which might delay the departure. But even though I may tarry, Israel is still in the plans.
ReplyDeleteBrought to you by your friendly blogland Aliyah recruiter, lol.
ReplyDelete(Aliyah action figures sold separately...)
ReplyDeleteAliyah is a dream I have which I probably will never have the guts to act on. I hope to be wrong.
ReplyDeletemore and more do i come across reminders such as your blog so increasingly have i been thinking about going to israrel, if not aliya, a much needed visit.
ReplyDeletehow do you know when it's time to make aliyah?
ReplyDeletewhen you're living the "american dream" and completely unable to be satisfied with all that seems to make everyone else around you inexorably happy--the house, the cars, the great schools, etc., but realize that a too small apartment minutes away from jerusalem would do amazing things for your soul and the futures of your kids, and if you have to leave most of your stuff behind, well, so be it.
sarah-at least come to israel long enough to make a small fortune, and then you can go back to america.
ReplyDeletehaha jameel
oh and the sabra will g-d willin be a reaaal sabra soon enough. iow, doin the aliyah thing :)
ReplyDeleteIs it just me or is anyone else thinking it might be time to change the name of this blog from "The Muqata" to "The Sochnut"?
ReplyDeleteTAFKAPP: You think I want to so blatantly divulge my secret source of Muqata funding?
ReplyDeleteNo one would take this site seriously anymore!
Jameel: You think I want to so blatantly divulge my secret source of Muqata funding?
ReplyDeleteHey, now you've ruined my image of you, I'd always thought you pulled a 'Kochavi Shemesh'* for funding...
Truth.
* - I wonder if Mr. Joe Settler might be able to tell you what I mean (if you don't know already).
Truth: Actually, my funding comes from the EU and TIPH. They haven't caught on yet what this blog is really about. The arabic on top is about as far as they need to get.
ReplyDelete:-D
ReplyDelete(p.s. what DOES the arabic mean?)
Truth.
ReplyDeleteWasn't he a Black Panthers?
I'll have to ask my Mother-in-Law. She's still an active member.

Joe,
Yes. He was one of the 'founders' [with Sa'adiya Marciano, Charlie Biton and Reuven Abergil].
What he did was met up with the PLO and got a suitcase full of money out of them to use for 'revolutionary purposes' - then just kept it [for himself]!
Apparently the security services didn't do much more than laugh about it [and wished that they'd had that idea themselves]...
Your mother-in-law... fascinating... maybe I knew her [back in the day]...
Truth.
the sabra: (p.s. what DOES the arabic mean?)
ReplyDeleteIt seems to read, 'Jameel at the Muqata'...
:-)
Truth.
Truth: Good Guess :)
ReplyDeleteJameel,
ReplyDeleteI didn't guess, I fed the text into my 'tricorder' for translation... one to beam up, Scotty [oh, I forgot, Scotty's dead, Jim] - now, Mr. Sulu, put one of those photon torpedoes onto that other golden orb a few degrees east of the last one...
Truth.
She used to pack heat back then (or so she says).
ReplyDeletePhish:
ReplyDeleteWhat you say may be true, but it still takes guts to do it.
I did it after my wedding, and we're still here, almost 36 years.
ReplyDeleteNo in a million years or for a million dollars can I ever imagine myself anyplace else.
Great Aliyah Post here:

ReplyDeleteWe're anxiously awaiting approval from Nefesh B'nefesh, and already have approval from the Shaliach. We're coming in July........

"Jameel": it was actually exciting as all hell to come here. I had the best time of my life getting away from my parents(though nowadays I miss them terribly). BTW: they're coming for a visit the third of March(I'm not even sure what day of the week that is:) and I'll have to disappoint them again by telling them of my plans to stay here.
ReplyDeleteGood for you for trying your best to promote aliya,
Be'tikva,Eitan.
im there i just need a job
ReplyDeleteI grew up in Washington Heights (Northern Manhattan) and made Aliya 26 years ago when I was just out of college. When I came, I didn't have a job, nor did I know Hebrew very well. There was no nefesh B nefesh, no pilot trips - in fact more Jewish Agency shlichim were making Yerida than North American's were making Aliya (and staying). Over the years, I've seen the best and worst of times in Israel but do not regret the decision I made for a split second. If your Judaism is important to you, regardless of whether or not you are orthodox, Israel is the place to be.
ReplyDeleteI'm with ya, Rich! It's sure a hard decision but whether religious or secular we have that Jewish blood flowing through our systems and hey...no one can get that out!
ReplyDeleteI respect you and people like you very, very much.
Be'tikva, Eitan.
I disagree with you Rich (and regreg)-there are other places where Jews are needed, besides for Israel. If you are in chutz l'aretz and spreadin Judaism, learning with people who know less than you, and basically elevating the sparks of G-dliness found in all four corners of the world, then that is the place where you should be.
