We're all entitled. Some of us just do a better job of covering up the details of our personal lives and/or stifling ourselves in personal areas that would make us identifiable to the knowing reader.
Methinks, with such a fandom at your feet, being semianonymous is like semi-jumping off a cliff. Your blog is just too good, and the populus wants to know who's behind it.
Funny, my blog is wide open to my identity and I never gave a thought to hide behind anonymity and I feel good about it. I mean, it's not as if you're a fanatic rightwinger and you post surreptitiously just slightly right of center to draw people over. You're just a fanatic right-winger (okay, maybe I am too) amd be proud of it. I think over at RenegadeReb they are trying to get together. Or maybe it's just a game you'd otherwise never get to play - guess who I am?
My *mother*, who sometimes reads my blog and checks out stuff I link to about once a month, somehow stumbled on the blog of an old friend, realized immediately who it was, and pointed it out to me. I commented, not giving away anything, and he freaked - not only don't his parents know, but he didn't think anyone he knew would stumble on it, clearly. He felt he'd lost his ability to speak his mind completely. Thankfully, my mother didn't mention it to her best friend (his mother) - but it's understandable why people wish to remain semianon, and people should respect that.
It's nice to beable able to choose who does and doesn't know who they are really reading about - as long as bloggers remember the internet is far from private!
Jameel, I just found out that my mother-in-law found my blog (I had mentioned that I used this name when commenting on Littlegreenfootballs, so the fault is all mine). I never use my blog to kvetch about family, but it still makes me a bit uncomfortable, so I can sympathize with you.
I've been dealing with this right now and it's making me nuts... at least you're semi-anonymous with a machine gun :)
Actually, people who tell me they know who I am don't bother me so much, I don't think I have anything to hide or that I wouldn't put my name, rank and and shoe size to (7.5, but no slingbacks because alas, I have narrow heels)... it's the people who say they know who I am and threaten to tell other people who make me insane.
Yeah...I guess that if anyone from my family had to find out, I wouldn't mind quite as much if it was a Sib. I would certainly watch myself more carefully when writing, but I wouldn't delete it. If Ma or Pa found it, though...well, if you ever try to find my blog and it doesn't exist anymore, you'll know what happened.
Jameel, are you hiding from the Shabak again?
ReplyDeleteWho is blaming you? Ye gods. Be semianonymous. Why not? Who shall stop you?

ReplyDeleteIs someone giving you a hard time?

ReplyDeleteSabzi: I think you're over estimating the fandom of this blog...
ReplyDeleteScraps: Yes, someone is giving me a hard time. I hope they got the message to lay off.
Chana: I want to be semianonymous! Its when people ignore my request for semianonymity that I get annoyed.

ReplyDeletenot unreasonable at all!
ReplyDeletesemi-anonymous is not too much to ask.
oh c'mon Jameel. Tell us who you are!!!

ReplyDeleteIf anyone from my family ever came across my blog, I think I'd die. And then I'd never blog again.

WBM: I never blog to kvetch about family (except playful banter about my immediate family at the muqata, which the wife reads...)
ReplyDeleteScraps: I know how you feel -- some of my family knows...but not all. (One of the reasons I almost deleted my blog).
RafiG: What do I get in return? There's already a blackmail threat in this comment thread!
StepIma; Yes, the M16 is a great conversation stopper (or starter...)

ReplyDeletehehe scraps writes that if anyone would find out about her blog, she'd die and then delete it. anyone else find this chronologically challenging?
