Blogging less than usual due to Erev Shabbat...

4:01 PM Since this morning, Magen David Adom emergency medical services have treated over 50 wounded in the Northern areas of Israel.

3:27 PM Editorial Comment: THIS IS NOT NORMAL. Im blogging about rocket after rocket attack, with explosions heard throughout the North, MDA ambulances frantically searching out wounded to take them to hospitals...

Israel needs to FORCEFULLY defend it's citizens, now. Otherwise, our leadership is truly pathetic. (end of rant)

The IDF HomeFront Command requests that ALL NORTHERN RESIDENTS stay in bomb shelters, while Haifa residents are being told to be in the close vicinity of buildings to reach shelter quickly in the event of a rocket attack.

2:38 PM: Breaking News! Just got a call from fellow blogger Rock of Galilee -- his town was just rocketed by a Katyusha and his entire house shook. They are ALL OK and in their bomb shelter (and now they have no cellphone reception)

  1. Sorry I have been a bit out of it. Just read your last nights posts too.

    Pls stay safe!
And our thoughts are with you all despite living so far.

  2. I listen to the radio, and I hate the music!!!

Are they trying to get us all to commit suicide by listening to depressing music?

In all seriousness - we need them to cheer us up - the tough-man status here in Israel will not last long if everyone keeps trying to get us depressed.

On a lighter note: Last night I was watching channel 10 news, and Inon Magal was interviewing an Israeli in Tzfat. He inquired as to whether the fellow would be sleeping in the bomb shelter, and the fellow said, "Me? Bomb shelter? No way!"

Inon pressed on, and said, "But isn't it safer to be in a safe area that katyushas can't penetrate?"

The fellow said "It's OK - I have this tree here" - and he pointed to a palm tree.

I burst out laughing at the sheer Israeli chutzpa.

2 minutes later Inon had convinced him that it would be a good idea to sleep indoors, in the bomb shelter.

The gut instinct of a lot of Israelis is - "Me, show fear? Never!" - but it is quite amusing at times.

As the Rambam puts it - a gibbor is not an idiot who constantly puts his life in danger and miraculously escapes. You have to know when to show bravado and when to sleep in the bomb shelter.

  4. Jameel,
Why aren't they bombing the source of the katyusha rockets in souther lebanon? Are they mobile? Are they not destroying them to give opportunity for Israel to hit Lebanon harder for release of the soldiers when these rockets still fall in norther Israel?

  5. JH: The IDF is not reacting with it's full might, and are still restrained by the government.

Napalm, for example, would do the job very quickly.

As our civilian casulties rate rises by the hour, it's not immoral to consider that option. (And we didn't start this war either)

  14. Hello Jameel,
Just looked up the names of the captured soldiers and thought your readers (and their shul gabbays) might be interested:

Eldad Regev is Eldad ben Tovah.
Ehud Goldwasser is Ehud ben Malka. (for some reason, today's Haaretz njewspaper gives his name as Ohad but Arutz 7 and nrg have Ehud)
and Gilad Shalit is Gilad ben Aviva.

    Shabbat shalom

  18. Just thought youd want to know that while the typical response to all this by the world is that Israel should stop the force, the political right here in the US is very much supporting Israel and they understand the nature of the enemy we are dealing with. I don't know what else to say except stay strong, hope you have a great shabbos, and hopefully this will all be over soon....
