IDF Sign of the Times
Dear Member/Resident/Visitor/Terrorist:
Due to the game [world cup] -- this gate (shin gimmel) is closed!
Urgent matters will be dealt with during the half-time break.
Thanks!
The Gate (Shin and Gimmel)
Additional explanation: The gate to any IDF base, settlement, kibbutz, moshav, etc is a called by the intials "shin gimmel " -- which stands for "Shaar Gader - שער גדר", the gateway of the fence.

I would like to be in a zone like this one day, i want to know why in this zones live in wars all time, i cannot understand why this people do not live in peace like other zones.
I have to wonder if that's funny or sad.
ReplyDeleteA little something to smile about today...thanks
ReplyDeleteChortle
ReplyDeleteRachak: Well, I hate the World Cup, so I chalk this up to the patheticness of the game.
ReplyDeleteWBM & TafkaPP: Yes, a smile/chortle is definitely warranted this morning. (But its less than a guffaw...still looking for something guffaw-evoking)
mechabel!
ReplyDeletemehhabeil yaqar ?
ReplyDeleteSteg & The Sabra: See? Soccer/Football really does warp your brain.
ReplyDeleteIt's probably better off. The Shin Gimel makes more trouble than it's worth.
ReplyDeleteBtw - Why are there always 2 people at a Shin Gimel?
In case Comment sense manages to get past the first one.

Finally, someone has their priorities straight :P
ReplyDeleteCan I correct?
ReplyDeleteShin-Gimmel originally stood for Shomer Gdudi, battalion watchguard. Nothing to do with gate. Just sort of slipped into common usage.
YMedad: Actually, Wiki has it listed as Shoter Gedudi.
