So I like Cadbury's Dairy Milk Chocolate, and occasionally buy some in the UK when I'm there on business trips...and I even bring some back with me (for eating at work).
My wife preferes I don't even bring it home...why bother with the temptation.
So I have this bar on my desk which I nibble at over the day, and if I'm lucky, it can last for days before it's finished.
Today, a coworker came into my office, sees the Cadbury bar on my desk and says, "WHAT? Chocolate? And you didn't TELL ME?"
Obviously, I offered her a few squares.
She asked for more.
I gave her more.
I asked for help with something I was working on...she asked for a bit more chocolate.
"Fine", I said, and gave her a bit more.
We walked out of my office, getting back to work.
She just walked into my office again (5 hours later from this morning's initial chocolate-fest).
"Any more chocolate," she asked?
"Sorry," I replied, "I'm a pig and finished it."
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" She shrieked at me...
Just when I thought this story was over, she picked up a magazine on my desk and started flipping through the pages. Suddenly she stopped.
"Chocolate" she whispered...she had found crumbs of chocolate buried in one page...and some slivers of it in the inner crease of the binding....
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" I yelled, "Don't do it!!"
Too late.
She ate it!
I can't believe it. Old chocolate crumbs and slivers, not wrapped in foil or anything....*
Sad, Sad, Sad...

*I can't believe I'm admitting this, but the aforementioned magazine was in a bag, which I gave to someone the day before. At the bottom of the bag were 4 squares of chocolate, also unwrapped. I ate them too, but don't tell anyone.
Wherever I am, my blog turns towards Eretz Yisrael
lol that's quite the chocoholic. there must be help groups for that?
ReplyDeletefunnily enough though, i just had a lovely dessert of a row of cadbury dairy milk. (just one row though... not gobbling a block and then picking up the crumbs!)
Jameel - you are torturing me. I LOVE Cadbury milk chocolate but can't find it here....
ReplyDeleteSarah: Just one row? Such self-control!
ReplyDeleteWestBankMama: If you ever get to Raanana, you can find some (albeit, very expensive) at Meatland.
jameel: it's not a novelty here! if you know anyone going from melbourne to israel, let me know...i'll send you a care package of cadbury's ;)
ReplyDeleteSarah: I get to the UK often enough to buy Cadbury's, but it sounds like WestBankMama's in desperate need!

ReplyDeletewalla do we have some heavy duty blackmail at our fingertips.
Does this mean that Cadbury's might not be the best housegift for the Muqata clan?
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, I'm not one to bring those types of housegifts anyways.
oh my gosh she sounds in full fledged - pms mode - pass me the chocolate and no one will get hurt. Scary! funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat! You had chocolate and you didn't TELL me?
ReplyDeleteKnow for next time. But I promise I'll only take one piece. Probably. :)
Let it be known that I do not work with Jameel. But it sure as hell sounds like my separated-at-birth twin sister does!
ReplyDeleteWBM- I have a nice little racket of importing. But if you are really desperate, they sell it in most Arab markolot in your area of the country...
I can't believe you shared. When I have something that's mine all mine, I HATE sharing. And seconds and then my crumbs? No way Jose...
ReplyDeleteI prefer Godiva. And after that, Hersheys. Although Elite is also good, upon occasion.
ReplyDeleteHave to tell you, with the Hershey's store right here on Broadway...I have refused to enter it. One day I will, and I shall be lost to the world. But not yet. ;)
The sabra: blackmail material? There's plenty more all over my blog!
ReplyDeletetnspr569: All gifts are accepted at the Muqata! We even got a treif gift once, which we then re-gifted to our neighbor's Filipino. Of course, he wasn't surprised -- they know all about Shabbat, Kashrut... ;-)
Kishmech: Nyah - chocoholism is a 365 day a year condition.
YSRM: Hey, if I told you about it, then I'd have less for me! Fine...will keep you in mind.
tafka PP: Really? The question is, does Cadbury's that the Arabs ell originate from the UK? I'm not sure that Cadbury's around the world is inherently kosher...
Sara with no H: Well, it's not like I advertised that I had it. My coworker just came into my office and saw it on my desk...What was I going to do???
Chana: you ever have Cadbury's before? Puts Hershey's to shame...(see what I learned in yeshiva in Israel? That Cadbury's is better than Hershey's! Was worth coming here just for that ;-)
ReplyDeleteJust what kind of housegifts do you think I bring? :)
ReplyDeleteMmmm, chocolate.
ReplyDeleteMmmm, chocolate.
Mmmmm...... mmmmmm.......
mmmmmmhooooo!
Choc co lit!
Ya, Im a chocaholic myself. My co-workers buys M&ms for the entire office. I usually scarf them all down in a few days. I then yell at her why she buys them. "ITS NOT HEALTHY FOR ME TO EAT SO MANY M&M'S. STOP BUYING THEM." But then some time goes by and she does not buy them, I yell at her for that too. It's gotten to the point where one of the co-workers is thinking of putting them in some container with a lock that I can't get to. bbwwaaahhhhaaaa, thats what he thinks.
ReplyDeletedude.....
ReplyDeleteI am scared to come for shabbos!
HAHA just kidding.
man I have successfully been keeping cholov yisrael now for 2 years but I do miss that stuff :(
I remember about 6 years ago I wanted to know why the guys were smoking chocolate lol
we will gladly send packages of cadbury's to anyone in need in return for proteczia....
ReplyDeletehahahahaahahaa!!!!!
my weakness is "after 8"
ReplyDeletemint, mint and more mint, with a drop of chocolate
Years ago, a dietician friend of mine told me that people's taste buds literally change with age, physiologically, which is why young children often like extremely sweet foods that older folks often find too sweet. That's certainly the case with me: I lost my taste for milk chocolate years ago. But, on the other hand, one of the first terms that I made it my business to learn when we were in Israel last summer was "shokolad marir," bittersweet chocolate. I'm quite addicted to it, and would eat it all day and night if the caffeine didn't make my heart race.
ReplyDeleteFor the office, though, M & M Peanuts are the way to go--they're the only form of chocolate that won't mess up my keyboard.
I'm with chana, minus the Elite. If you're in the states, Godiva makes a pumpkin truffle around this time of year...yum!
ReplyDeleteJust be careful, not all opf Cadbury products are Kosher:

In defense of Hershey's, of which I'm usually not all that fond (except for their M & M Peanuts, which are the only things that keep me awake at work), I just tried their Cacao Reserve Extra Dark Chocolate Cacao Nibs 65% Cacao Dark Chocolate yesterday, and it's quite good. Unfortunately, it's dairy. What good is a bittersweat chocolate that's not pareve? The Punster and I are pretty much living on Schmerling's 72% Cocoa parve bittersweet Swiss chocolate, at the moment. Allegedly, high-cocoa/cacao content is good for your heart, or some such (any excuse will do). Sadly, it still makes my heart race. Every now and then, I have to "go cold turkey" and "detox" by not eating chocolate for four days straight. I really hate it when that happens, but it's the only way to get my heartbeat-rate to slow back down to a normal pace.
ReplyDeleteOn the plus side, at least I don't get hives from chocolate anymore--I was allergic to it as a child. Have you ever tried so-called white chocolate? It doesn't taste anything whatsoever like the "real McCoy," the kind with, ya know, cocoa--the main ingredient--in it. Yuck. And the only way I can stand carob is when it's combined with nuts. Give me cocoa/cacao, or don't bother.
Addiction is scary.
ReplyDeletePeople. There is no defence of Hershey's.
ReplyDeleteOk...I love chocolate, but I wouldn't go far. Actually that sounds like something my 7 year old daughter would do. I swear she would lick it off the floor if I wasn't looking.
ReplyDeleteOh no - Cadbury Dairy Milk. Cholov Akum in this blog.
ReplyDeleteIsn't this dejavu? Didn't we have this Chocolate War last year? I love Cadbury and can eat a huge bar of it in one sitting, and Israeli chocolate is delicious too, that is compared to most American chocolate, like Hersheys.
ReplyDeleteSee's Candy is divine.
I am not sure about it, but I think all Dairy Milk is the same kashrus the world over (even if I have found some with an OU). I have been "clean" now for 6 years (only cholov yisroel now) but Cadburys is the one thing I miss most.
