Popcorn and Cellphones

I'm waaaay to busy to seriously post this week. Yet, when I get 10 emails with the same topic, I can spare 2 minutes to write this. There are youtube videos going around showing how you can cook popcorn between cellphones -- the obvious message being that cellphones are bad, scary, and they cook your brain based on the emitted radiation.

The videos however, are fake.

They were produced by a blue tooth headset company to scare you into using their product, to get millions of page views of their videos, and generate marketing/media buzz.

For the record, you cannot "microwave", "cook", or "nuke" popcorn via 4 cellphones, or even cook an egg with 100 cellphones!

In October 2005, the UK based Brainiac show demonstrated that it simply does not work.

So the next time you get a scary looking video or internet email...check with Snopes.

They are your friend.

Really? Wow. I thought the obvious message was - "COOL!" Imagine being able to pop popcorn with your cellphone!!! (Er, of course, only if this ability came without all the radiation stuff)

Only with the new Motorola HEETR phones.

  9. I guess actually the biggest danger is that you wouldn't be able to speak on your cellphone afterwards -- b/c of having burned your mouth on the hot popcorn...

... or b/c of the melted butter you accidentally poured on the phone.

  10. so you say mobile phones do not produce enough radiation to heat anything! so why do they put sign in petrol stations to turn your mobile off when you are there??

Israel's cellphone and petrol station law is based on an URBAN LEGEND and not on fact! (I posted it about it a few months ago...do a google search on my blog and you'll find it)

  12. RE: petrol stations and cell phones. It's simply ignorance that means poeple put up signs. Besides a lit match, the only otherwise obvious way of setting fire to yourself when refuelling is with a static electricity discharge.

Talk on your phone all you wwant when filling up and laugh in the face of those who have no understanding of physics!
