"Peace Now" Slams IDF for Commending 9 Year Old Terror Victim

This was unfortunately, so predictable.

Peace Now's Director, Yariv Oppenheimer on the IDF awarding a citation to a 9 year old youth who fought off a knife wielding Palestinian terrorist:

"The job of a Brigade Commander is not to give out prizes, but to ensure the welfare of the residents of the area, Jews and Arabs, and enforce the law in the territories.

The subservient sycophancy of the army towards the Yitzhar residents is superfluous, and impacts the [army's] ability to enforce law and order in the area"
[source in Hebrew]

I wonder if Peace Now has stated to bring charges of "crimes against humanity" against the IDF Commander in the Hague's World Court, for awarding the citation to the 9 year old Yitzhar resident.

Oops. Gave them an idea.

  1. they do have a point though:

"The job of a Brigade Commander is not to give out prizes, but to ensure the welfare of the residents of the area, Jews and Arabs, and enforce the law in the territories."

maybe the IDF should be focusing more on preventing such incidents altogether....

  2. SHIMON:

israel's best soldiers today are from the ranks of the national religious (and not from the ranks of peace now?). nothing wrong with rewarding and encouraging the bravery of those who will be the next generation's crack soldiers.

  3. Just be careful not to bomb any members of Peace Now, Jameel, since the national religious apparently consider that an option now.

  4. anonymous: Really? Who's been feeding you your intel, Avishai Raviv?

shimon: There's a long list of things for the IDF to cut back on before they get to stop giving out citations to 9 year olds.

  5. don't get me wrong. the boy deserves a medal. i'm not sure it is the army (who should have prevented the incident) who should be the ones giving it.

  6. Peace Now should volunteer to be human shields so they get killed instead.
It will save people who want to live, and stop their complaining

  7. The (original) article itself was heartwarming and made me feel proud. Peace Now should-(rest of comment deleted by it being erev Yom Kippur, and inappropriate for children under 13 years of age) I would love to send this brave young man more prizes. B'H. Go Tuvia Go!

  8. There are lots of problems between Yitzhar and the IDF. The prize-giving was a good way to start the year.
