Barack and Rahm

Barack and Rahm (Lightning and Thunder).

Let's hope we can stay out of the storm.

(I am not the person who first noticed this or created this comment, but it is so appropriate).

(Actually it should be Ra'am, so let's pretend it is so this pun will work)

Wherever I am, my blog turns towards Eretz Yisrael טובה הארץ מאד מאד

  1. Would "Shock and Awe" be an idiomatic translation?

  2. It means change and much better than 'shock and awe'.

  4. Obama's first name isn't Hebrew. It's Arabic, and it translates as blessed.

  5. Do they sell potassium iodide in Israeli stores over the counter?

Might be a good idea to stock up on some.

If you can't get it in the stores I believe you can order it through the Internet.

  6. Barack is like "Baruch" - see this article for more info on his name:

  7. It's all getting a bit Arutz Sheva around the Muqata, or is it just me?

  9. I was going to post the same thing, but I had to wash the floor before Shabbat.

And for the linguistic purists, the power pair could be known as the Blessed High. I think Thunder and Lightening suit them better.

Arutz-7 is not nearly as entertaining and heimishe as the Muqata. Not to mention that they've got no waffles, and nary a word on Srugim...

    לא נשמעים תמיד אותו הדבר
    ראמים וברקים
    ברקים וראמים
    לפעמים קרובים ולפעים רחוקים

One of my favorite children's songs/ poems by Yonatan Geffen! ( I got your back tafka, as always; I'm sure he's a raging leftist!)

  13. I wonder if they will clear the air, just like a good thunderstorm?

    Here's hoping.

  14. What do Israelis think of the Rahm Emmanuel choice? He is pretty committed to Israel, in actions not just words.

  15. TafkaPP: I think that was rather magnanimous of Joe to admit that when he posts, its rather like Arutz 7. You are more than welcome to post your point of view and I'll personally make sure the JoeSettlers behave (or will at least be civil).

Fern: Israelies are still waiting to hear more about Rahm Emmanuel before having too serious an opinion.

  16. Abbi, LOL yes I think he is :-)

And it's true, Lurker and Joe- I like the Muqata better than A7: More waffles, less adverts for JONAH and self-serving rants by plagiarising columnists.

  17. It's occurred to me that a similar amount of tweaking will transliterate the Obama slogan "Yes We Can" to יּשׁﬠ כּן
