Lately, gaggles of cats have been hanging out in our neighborhood. One particular cat (ok, 2 cats) have been semi-adopted by us, and we feed it whatever would normally be thrown away (we like to think that having the cats around will keep mice away).
We found it strange that when we give one cat expired cottage cheese, instead of eating it by putting their face into the cottage cheese container, the cat places its paw in the container, scoops up the cottage cheese, and then politely licks the cheese off its paw.
Our cat-crazy-cousin think that's normal behavior for cats, but we're not so sure.
Judge for yourselves.

Wherever I am, my blog turns towards Eretz Yisrael טובה הארץ מאד מאד
Not normal....
ReplyDeleteI have 2 cats...
The dipping the first time to test it is not that weird. I see my cats dip in cups with water to check it...but to eat that way is weird.
Thanks Yael! We're just trying to determine how cat-crazy my cousin is, because she's convinced this is totally normal behavior.

ReplyDeleteHow is the cat supposed to get to the cottage cheese, its face does not fit in the container. All this proves is that the cat is smart, despite the name that you gave it.... And I love how you justify having the cats as pets "they keep away mice"
You are closet cat lovers!!!
CCC - the OTHER cats that congregate here manage just fine - and they are the same size!! -Jameela
ReplyDeleteIt looks just like my kitty! She does the same thing, even with tuna. The only time she doesn't eat like that is with her regular cat food. My other two cats don't have the same manners.
ReplyDeleteObviously she is a brighter cat with higher aspirations. One day, if she has her way, you will be eating out of the cottage cheese container and she will be in the kitchen using a spoon on a plate and a napkin on her lap.

ReplyDeleteWe'll tell that one to Jameel next time he wakes up with a cat in his sleeping bag.
I can't relate. We're dog people. Our dog, Ozzy, however just LOVES cats (yum!).
ReplyDelete;-)
Cats do lots of weird things with food. I have four cats. Two of them take kibble out of the food dish (in their mouth), place it on the floor, then take it in their mouth again and eat it. Another one of my cats regularly drowns his toys in the water bowl. The final cat does a full 360 around the food bowl before eating.
ReplyDeleteOur cat digs in her bowl and shpritzes the food everywhere. Only then does she eat. I'll have to introduce her to your cat to learn some table manners :-)
ReplyDeleteannie: Well for starters, don't let your cat in the house :-)
ReplyDeleteSomehow, I don't see indoor pets in the Muqata family future... :-P
