Go North

Nefesh B'Nefesh is at it again, and this time even Olim already in Israel are eligible.

What am I talking about?

NBN is pushing Olim to Go North. NBN is offering serious grants and assistance for Olim (new or older), who would go live in communities in Israel's North.

What is interesting is that unlike other NBN grants, this one is also open to Olim already in Israel!

The program offers 2 tracks, one for people looking to integrate into an all Israeli community, and the other if someone wants to join a Garin of English speakers in a more mixed community.

Both tracks come with significant financial incentives and support.

Something for everyone. So Go North with Nefesh B'Nefesh.

I wonder if I can convince my wife to move to a settlement on the Golan Heights.

Wherever I am, my blog turns towards Eretz Yisrael טובה הארץ מאד מאד

  1. I think it's a great idea, but the concern I have relates to work. Aliya, for the most part, isn't going to be successful if you can't make ends meet. I've seen too many people fail - and I think there are two main reasons why they do. The first is attitude - they came here with the wrong attitude in the first place, thinking everything was coming to them, etc. But the second reason many aliya plans break is because of economic issues. It is harder to find employment in the north - yes, some things are probably cheaper over all (housing, yes...but food, clothing etc., probably not), but you still need to be able to make a living there. If you can - it's a beautiful place to live. Personally, I've learned over the years that I couldn't stand being so far from Jerusalem - but if I ever fall into a million...shekels or dollars, depending on which is more in the future...I'd love a place up in the Golan or Tsfat.

  2. I asked my wife, she won't move to the Golan. She like being within driving distance to Jerusalem. (She would prefer to live in the Old City or around the corner from Emek Refaim apparently).

From what I understand, NBN helps with the job search.

Also, I'm not sure most people are aware of it, but there is a very major hi-tech park near Haifa (Intel and Microsoft are there), and various other Northern towns have industrial parks.

I don't think living there is for everyone but for someone who wants a less crowded urbanized life (Tel Aviv, Jerusalem), it can be amazing.

  3. How do you know it's open to Olim that already live here? I looked at it, and I didn't see anything anywhere. We already live up north and would LOVE to be part of a Garin. Could you email me with those specifics?
