  1. Please-
I hope that not even one commenter will be so stupid and insensitive as to suggest that the victims "deserved it" for being gay. Some lunatic shot at a bunch of teenagers. That is absolutely horrific on any level.

  3. It sounds like an inside job. Some young man spurned or who was convinced to try their path and now regrets it.

  4. There's currently a police imposed media blackout on the story.

Apparently, its even more definite that it was directed against the club.

Apparently, the attack was even harder for some of the teenagers whose parents didn't know they were getting counseling about "coming out of the closet"...imagine the kids calling from the hospital, telling their parents where they were.

  5. I totally agrre with Raizy and note that the most unsensitive comments come from brave anonymous commentators.
Thinking of the families who have lost a son or daughter. The news here says that three have died, one apparently died later in hospital.

  8. Jameel- I don't know what you term a "nasty" comment, but 4/5 of the "Anonymous" ones are definitely contenders in my book. Please please delete, this kind of unpleasantness has no place on your blog, especially today.

  9. Jameel-
I truly hope that you're being sarcastic. Every one of the Anonymous comments above are nasty.

  10. We remind our readers that we prefer you do use some sort of identifying name when commenting.

I discussed it with Jameel, and we erased two of the anonymous comments that we see could be perceived as nasty.

The other anonymous comments appear to state opinions about the events, that may turn out to be factually correct. We don't see anything nasty about them.

As always, the Muqata blog denounces all violence and extremism from all sides.

  11. you know that it is even illegal to publicize that there is a media blackout? A blackout on the blackout.

I wonder if the police will screw up this investigation as well.

  12. While I vehemently disagree with the "nasty" comments, I also disagree with censorship and "comment shaping". Regardless of whether or not one agrees with the opinions of these commenters, or how much anger one feels for those making closed minded asinine responses like some of those above, if they choose to post a comment then that comment should remain posted as long as it is within the boundary of the law.

While there is an argument to be made about only deserving free speech if posting with a name , that is standing behind your opinion as I am standing behind this comment, if you are going to offer an option of posting anonymous comments, you must take the bad with the good.

    Just my $0.02.

  13. Ben:
    A valid argument.

On Jameel's blog, Jameel uses the censorship option extremely rarely - almost never in fact.

But he received some personal requests from individuals who felt deeply hurt by some of (all of, actually) the anonymous comments and he made a decision that the personal feelings of his friends outweighed some anonymous comments - in this case.

On my blog I do not allow anti-Semites to post, ever.

There it's my blog, and my platform and I don't have to give a voice to anyone I don't want to.

  14. "What is also bad is how the homosexual community will now exploit this attack to try force the rest of us to accept their lifestyle as healthy and legitimite"

Spelling issues aside... you "don't see anything nasty about" this one? Seriously?!

  15. They already using it to blame the religious for what happeded, next they'll use it to avert all criticism of their deadend lifestyle by saying 'words kill'. In the end when the killer turns out to be one of their own, we won't hear apologies. I bet the police suspect already it was a spurned lover. You don't get this kind of a media blackout when a religious Jew is accused of something.
