Ebay making Aliya to Israel!

Finally - now you can get that collector gefilte fish 6-jar set you've had your eye on for years.
Online auction company eBay Inc. (Nasdaq: EBAY) has cleared the way to open an office of PayPal in Israel, the company's online international money transfer and payments unit. Leumi Card VP Oded Zahavi will run PayPal Israel.

Although eBay has a Hebrew-language site eBay Israel with product prices listed in both dollars and shekels, as well as a search function for popular items, Israeli buyers have only limited options for paying through PayPal. They have to open an account using an international credit card, but they cannot withdraw money accumulated in the account because PayPal has no agreement with Israeli commercial banks. 2. Oh, goodie maybe Palestinians in occupied territories could have access too?
Oops, some radical Israelis believe in access to basic human rights for themselves only. No one else matters not especially Christian and Muslim Arabs in Israel proper or the occupied territories.

  3. When are they going to start accepting Israeli 8 digit credit cards?

  4. Phil: The Palestinians have their own internet domain, their own telephone infrastructure and ISPs -- including their own Stock Market (along with banks).

Why should Israel have to fund "ebay" for them? Is "ebay" a fundamental human right?

Then again - I can just imagine the lovely products on sale on their ebay:

Firebombs, Suicide Bomb belts, Qassam rockets...

  5. We'll see how long that lasts, since some radical Israelis want it all. Even Christian and Muslim Isrealis out of Israel proper and a re-affirmation of loyalty?Kind of flies in the face of the claim that Israelis are equal and protected by their own Constitution. Or am I wrong? The rhetoric of "Human Bomb" sounds like fascism to me. There is enough hate to go around. Too bad the silent majority of moderates in Israel is bullied by radical fringes and religious fanatics.

  6. Phil: Why would a "radical Israeli" not want the Palestinians to have their own local ebay?
