The news today is about a video that appeared on YouTube that juxtaposes scenes of Nazis brutally beating Jews to that of the Israeli police brutally beating passive religious teenagers, (unarmed) Settlers and Hareidi Jews, with some particularly harsh scenes from Amona.
Now I for one have a problem when the Nazi comparison is brought up against fellow Jews (far too often the Israeli radical left uses Nazi to describe Israel when they forget the word Apartheid) . And so while on one hand it taints the video, on the other hand, this video would never have gotten the coverage it did without it.
Why did the video get such coverage? Because as a result the police have opened an investigation.
But an investigation into what?
No, not an investigation against the incredibly brutal police violence that one explicitly sees in the video (including the identity of the brutal policemen), but against the makers of the video that simply juxtaposed videos of brutal police violence against that of brutal Nazis violence.
Again, it's in poor taste, but Freedom of Speech is once again under (selective) attack by the establishment, all the while as this video slaps us across the face with explicit brutality of the police against right-wing and religious Jews - brutality that won't be investigated by this same establishment trying to shut the mouths of those they disagree with.
The bright side of all this?
On all the talkbacks I've read, while the media outlets tried to paint the video editors as evil, the talkbackers all concentrated on the police violence.

This is an amazing video. It hurts to see Jews beat Jews. But the juxtapositioning is startling. I think it's the Naturei Karta who call the 'zionists' Nazis. The treatment meted out to the brave idealistic Jews that populate the hills and valleys outside urban areas exposes a schizophrenic government. And Tues Nefesh is bringing another 245 naive new olim.
ReplyDeleteOne must keep their head on straight as the world gets crazier and more insane by the day. Thank you for continuing to show the dichotomies of life in Eretz Yisrael.

as usual, the media reports on the wrong story.
ReplyDeleteI feel sick.
ReplyDeleteand enraged that this is considered lawful activity in Israel sanctioned by the government. Might as well carve swastikas into the arms of every police/unit that behaved in the same manner as the videos. and might as well tattoo numbers into the arms of the people they beat and arrested.
Again. The Nazi analogies are wrong. But there is something unhealthy with part of the establishment, in that it purposely targets free speech and uses the police as weapons against its political opponents.
ReplyDeleteThis unfortunately is the legacy of our Left, which began with the Saison and the Altalena.
And unfortunately it finds common voice today with our external enemies.
Shai Nitzan and the Left are focusing on alleged right-wing "incitement" against the police.
ReplyDeleteGo figure.
Not only is the Nazi analogy wrong, it is illegal in Israel and rightfully so. Blogs, social media and You Tube have always been a grey area though, until it makes the police look bad. As of 9PM IST, any mention of the video has disappeared from all of Israel's MSM. Ynet was the first to take it down.
ReplyDeleteYeah taken down only because it makes the police look bad and the MSM couldn't spin it to make the settlers look bad.

ReplyDeleteI'm not so sure why there is an assumption that this video was done by the left.
ReplyDeleteWould the radical left, which often calls for "justified" violence against settlers, and then cheers it on when it occurs, dare display settlers as victims? Possibly, they would be willing to exploit this to their own gains. I really doubt it, though.
Or perhaps, Joe, some Jew wanted to expose the truth, that Torah and secular Israeli law are becoming increasingly distant from one another, and that the civil war everyone is worried about has already begun.
Perhaps, this Jews wanted to show that [real] settlers and Haredim are really more closely connected than the Left or the Mamlakhti want us to see.
Tapu'ah West, Givot Olam, Havath Gilad, Givat Ronen, Adei Ad, the hilltops surrounding Hevron, and Havath Ma'on are heroic "settlements." Most others have decided to save their tuchuses by collaborating with the anti-Torah government, while others have forgotten their settlement history, and have become nothing less than bourgeois suburbs.
The truth hurts, doesn't it?
Israel is NO democracy; it is a deMOCKracy.
Further more, just how many of those Yassamniks (riot police) are even Jewish? Less and less. The government knows the goyim they have shipped in to vote in elections have naturally become disenfranchised, and have accepted the Torah-hatred implanted in their heads, thus making it much easier for them to do the government's dirty work.
The word Nazi is inaccurate; stormtroopers would have been much better.
We must learn from our mistakes in Europe (eg. assimilation, collaboration with enemies, passive acceptance), and must apply new strategies to the challenges Am Yisrael faces today, Jewish strategies. We our living in Eretz Yisrael now, and have no excuse but to fight against oppression and injustice.
We no longer have to "get along with the goyim," and that includes the koferim, epikoursim, and moserim who are "not as Israel at all" (Ramba"m).
Sometimes, it amazes me that you and I live in the same Land of Israel, follow the same Torah, and read the same news.
Joe: How would you feel if the same video was made, and there were images of Israeli policemen beating Arabs? There's plenty of footage like that available.
ReplyDeleteWould that video be considered offensive propaganda as well?
Additionally, don't you think there is room in a democratic society for policemen to have the authority to break down doors, like in the Disengagement? The Knesset democratically voted to leave Gaza, and the Knesset voted to remove the settlers. Does that make the soldiers "Nazi"s?
4 wolves voting to eat 1 sheep does not a democracy make.
ReplyDeletePolice brutality is police brutality, and should be stopped.
And as much as the Leftist like to complain and exagerate stories about police brutally beating them, you're going to have to look long and hard to find anything like Amona.
But what exactly was your point?

ReplyDeleteI'm still waiting for the police to investigate the murder of Baruch Goldstein.
ReplyDeleteWhen his weapon jammed and/or he ran out of bullets, he should have been overpowered and handed over to the authorities for trial. Instead, he was lynched. That, in anybody's book is murder and somebody should be brought to justice for it. Even worse is the left wing's racist, patronizing excuse for this behavior, "What do you expect from Arabs?"

Well, at least they weren't lying.
I remember watching footage that Amnon Yitzchak has of israeli police brutality. This video is nothing compared to what he had there. I would link it but it would take me an hour to find it. Supposedly, organizers of protests always make sure to bring plenty of video cameras because the brutality is kept in check when they know they are being recorded. (i got this from the documentary, "yoel, yisrael, and the pashkevilles".
ReplyDeleteThe comparison is obscene.
ReplyDeleteI am against police violence but you have to have some perspective and proportion. Not every thing that is bad can be compared to the Nazis. In fact, very little that is bad can be compared to the Nazis.
Forgive me for being consistent, but I look at this video the same way I look at videos of Palestinians being attacked.
ReplyDeleteIt's propaganda.
