Jameel, I'm not sure if you are aware that that was a takeoff on the song: "Children of 1974", as you probably came on aliya afterwards. Check it out, as the hauntingness comes from there, but the truthfulness is actually in Latma's version.
Yes, I'm well aware of the song, "Children of Winter, 1973", which was written in the late 80s if I'm not mistaken.
That song, with its haunting melody, is a "peace now" type song, full of lies. No one ever promised to turn our enemies into lovers. No one ever promised that their children would never have to go to the army.
The Latma version is far more realistic, and expresses the reality and truth of our sad situation since Sept 13, 1993.
I hope this new version from latma becomes the standard which is heard on the radio all the time...(though I doubt it)
I thought the American hippie bit was sadly unfunny and phoned in. Pity. Song was good, but, again, totally unfunny. The jokes are getting stale. There's no irreverence, no wild stuff. Hire new writers and go large on the weed, because as is it ain't cutting it. I could go on and on...

ReplyDeleteIt was written by Shmuel Hasafri in 1994, apparently as a contribution to the mindless Oslo Peace Frenzy at the time.
