IDF Naval Commandos capture Iranian weapons ship

11:30 AM -- Breaking News: Minutes ago an Iranian ship loaded with weapons was brought to the Israeli naval port in Ashdod. The boat was on its way to Syria with a large shipment of weapons was intercepted by Israeli Naval Commandos, about 160 kilometers (100 miles) off the coast of Israel.

The JPost adds more:
"The elite Navy Commando unit Shayetet 13 soldiers, who didn't encounter resistance on board, found the weapons and ammunition cache hidden behind what appeared to be a civilian cargo.

According to the officials, the vessel carried advanced weaponry including missiles, and the incident was apparently similar in scope to the seizing of the Karine A ship intercepted in January 2002 off the coast of Gaza. That boat carried some 50 tons of military equipment including Katyusha rockets, antitank missiles, and high explosives."
Great work IDF, but watch your back from Goldstone -- he'll surely accuse Israel of piracy on the high seas.

If it was an Israeli ship, captured by the Iranian navy, it would be considered "piracy."

So what makes it any different? There is no indication that illegal weapons were seized. Is it illegal all of the sudden to transport military weapons on civilian cargo ships? Or is it just illegal for Syria to buy new weapons or any kind?

The last time I checked, every nation in the world has the right to have an army.

  2. Sorry, but this is out and out piracy. I am not sure how you can explain it any other way - intercepting a vessel, boarding it and taking it back to your port

However this is not to say that I disagree with it. If no one else will look after us then we have take action and prevent these weapons from getting into the hands of terrorists.

  3. The transport of weapons to Lebanon for Hizbollah is in gross violation of UN Resolution 1701. I don't see how you can see it in any other way.

  4. Skaj: Yes, it is out and out piracy. I have no problem with it, since its saving lives and we have the moral highground lightyears above Hizbollah, Iran Syria, and Hamas.

Too bad we didn't attack more of Gaza when we were in Cast Lead.

If we're already going to get Goldstoned, we might as well get the job done.

It must be so hard fighting terror from your ivory tower.

  6. Yes, it is hard fighting terror from my "ivory tower." We have wrecked our economy doing so.

    All because of what?

Because of a group of people who are drunk on their own overblown sense of self worth.

"we have the moral highground lightyears above Hizbollah, Iran Syria, and Hamas."

If you guys were as moral as you think you are, you would have followed the supposed "illegal arms" to their destination, and THEN seized them, along with those who were receiving them.

Because you didn't do that, you have proven to the world that you think you are "above the law," by hijacking someone's ship.

That makes you no better than the ones who probably were going to use those weapons to attack you with.

But wait, this is just in:

"Local media reported that the vessel was carrying a shipment of several tonnes of anti-aircraft and anti-tank missiles, and Deputy Defence Minister Matan Vilnai told army radio that Katyusha rockets were among the cache."

So "local media" reports one thing, and Defence Minister Matan Vilnai reports another. Who do we believe?

Of course he said there were Katyusha rockets on board. There damn well better be, because anti-aircraft and anti-tank missiles are defensive weapons.

Can we trust the lying military leaders of Israel?

Let's see if they show us the Katyusha rockets.

  7. "Moral doesn't mean stupid. Sure, the IDF should have simply followed the boat all the way to Lebanon, where they would have received a wonderful welcome."

You guys used UN Resolution 1701 to justify your piracy. The same resolution says that Lebanon would disarm the non-government groups. So you are in violation of the same resolution. You didn't even give Lebanon a chance to do what they have said they would do.

"Exactly! There's no difference between Hamas Hizbollah who cross into Israel to kidnap soliders, bomb Israel's civilian population, and Israel which is simply trying to prevent more attacks against us."

If Israel was REALLY trying to prevent more attacks, Israel would cease building illegal squatter camps (which you call settlements) in Gaza.

You guys are cherry picking UN resolutions.

UN resolutions are for the good of humanity, not just the good of Israel. If you ignore the ones you don't like, why should you expect anyone else to do otherwise?

"Do you have any clue what a war on terror is about? How terrorists hide behind civilians, children, mosques, religion, schools, the UN, and hide behind "the law", so they can terrorize innocent civilians?"

Yes, I know what the "war on terror is about." Funny thing you should ask. It's about ending the use of terrorism as a weapon.

One thing you could do is kill all those who oppose your illegal operations.

Oh darn, there's a law against genocide.

Another thing you could do is prohibit anyone who you deem as "against you," from having weapons.

Oh darn, that's been done, and isn't working, because it's impossible to take rocks away from children. And equally impossible to prevent militant from obtaining real weapons.

Or, you could figure out what it is that the opposition is so opposed to.

Oh darn, they are opposed to someone just coming in and claiming that God gave you the land they have lived on for hundreds of years.

It looks like we have differences that just can't be resolved without a war that kills every person, on one side or the other, that believes they have a right to live in Palestine.

Isn't there a prophecy or two regarding that?

Ah yes, there is. It turns out that everyone fighting over Jerusalem gets to kill each other.

    Oh, what fun.

I think I'll just chill out over here, and throw verbal insults towards all those involved in mutual genocide.

  8. Anonymous: You didn't even give Lebanon a chance to do what they have said they would do.

Lebanon has had more than 3 years to get their act together. They havent been very successful to say the least (occasional Katyushas keep hitting us...)

If Israel was REALLY trying to prevent more attacks, Israel would cease building illegal squatter camps (which you call settlements) in Gaza.

What the heck are you smoking?

Can you please find me ANY news link that shows Israel building "illegal squatter camps" (or settlements?) in Gaza?

Earth to Anonymous: Gaza has been Jew-free since 2005's Disengagement from Gaza.

It did us a whole heck of a lot of good -- resulting in the rise of a Fundamentalist Iranian Proxy called Hamas, along with attacks and kidnappings of IDF soldiers, ongoing rocket attacks at Israel's southern population centers...etc.

Maybe you should get your facts in order before you start spewing your stupidity here for all to see?

  9. Oh, and Mr. Anonymous - Here's an article from ynet you'll hate reading.

    Apparently...

The lift destined for Hezbollah was hidden among thousands of white polyethylene bags. The weight of each bag was about 25 kg (55 lbs). Boxes contained 106 mm shells, rockets 107 mm and 122 mm in diameter, hand grenades, mortar shells, anti-tank missiles, and ammunition for Kalashnikov rifles.

Yes, defensive weapons for your Hizbollah friends...now in the hands of the IDF.

Try not to cry too much

  10. Sounds more like an interdiction than piracy. That's what happens when non-professionals try to use professional terms.

The purpose of interdiction is to delay, disrupt, or destroy enemy forces or supplies en route to the battle area.

  11. My mistake on illegal squatter settlements in Gaza.....had Gaza on the brain from another discussion. Should have said West Bank.

In doing a search on the weapons found....found this:

"But hours after the seizure, Israel had not provided proof that the arms were meant for the Lebanese guerrillas."

But haven't found any indication from the press that there was anything other than defensive weapons on board.

  12. Mr Gaza on the Brain:

But haven't found any indication from the press that there was anything other than defensive weapons on board.

See my latest post. I just participated in a Blogger Press Conference with the IDF Spokesman's office.

See the video and list of "non defensive" weapons.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I already read that report, and it said nothing of "non defensive" weapons. Here is the list they provided (which was verified by other outside news agencies).

"Boxes contained 106 mm shells, rockets 107 mm and 122 mm in diameter, hand grenades, mortar shells, anti-tank missiles, and ammunition for Kalashnikov rifles."

Nothing at all about Katyusha rockets, or anything else that Hizbollah has used to terrorize civilian populations, previously.

Everything listed appears to be purely defensive. It really does look like Israel blew the big one.

You guys really, really, really need to take a giant chill pill.....BEFORE you get us all killed in your over-zelous desire to prove that you are God's very special children.

You are just a bunch of militant dictators that think you should rule the world from Jerusalem.

  14. Ooh. Someone's jealous.

  15. Why would anyone be jelous of a bunch of imposters to the crown?

The "real Israel" doesn't gather until the "End of Days" events begin to take place.

But there is mention of a bunch of imposters, known as Ephraim, who would try to pull of a fast one, by taking Jerusalem.

And there is another prophecy of a man who would be hell bent on destroying Jerusalem, because of those imposters.

Of course, being the true imposters that you are, you ignore such prophecies as those, even though they are included in the same book that you think gives you the right to take Jerusalem.

Of course, you can blame your ignorance (or stupidity) on confusion.

Hey, that reminds me of something else the prophets warned us about.

    Babylon.

Oh yeah, did you guys know that the Messiah (the real one, not the Christian one) is watching you, and shaking his fist at you, oh hill of Jerusalem?

  16. Dear Anonymous,

Tell me, do you smoke your weed all at once, or let it cloud your brain slowly?

Nothing at all about Katyusha rockets, or anything else that Hizbollah has used to terrorize civilian populations, previously.

Everything listed appears to be purely defensive. It really does look like Israel blew the big one.

Excuse me? The 122 mm rockets ARE KATYUSHAS. Here's an easy to read definition for you from Global Security:

References now to the Katyusha mean not just one type of rocket, but a whole range of different artillery rockets, whether from old Soviet or other-nation stock, most frequently the 122mm rocket. The Katyusha rockets have little guidance and are not lethal enough to defeat Israel militarily, but are used by terrorist groups such as Hezbollah, operating out of Lebanon, to cause terror among the Israeli population.

What do you think the 106mm, 107mm and 122mm rockets are? Those aren't defensive -- yet purely offensive weapons.

Seems like you "blew it" big time, and revealed to the whole planet what an idiot you are, and proved you're simply a pathetic anti-zionist anti-Semite.

Got back to the rock you crawled out from under.

Beg to differ with you. Those weapon loaded ship was going via Syria straight to Hezbollah.or have you forgotten this tit,bit of information?
Israel must keep its eyes wide open all the times. We are seeing the newest threats coming from Hassan (the coward who is still hiding in his bunker) and has not stopped making new noises. Why would Syria suddenly need new weaponry. And since it has means to have them delivered via their ports? Why do it surreptitiously?
And the funny part is: The ships handler did not know what was in those huge packages? Oh yeah? When the world is always inspecting suspiciuous cargo ships because most intelligent countries /people know if they don’t scrutinize them, there would be a hell of a consequence to pay.
And last I heard,no decent country tries to annihilate MY COUNTRY.
    Capiche
