What Leftwing Organizers don’t tell their female “peace” activists

If you happen to get emails from the radical left telling you when and where the Friday protests are going to be (like I do), you’ll have noticed that they’ve been telling (“asking” according to some organizers) female participants to dress modestly at the protests in Sheikh Jarrah, Bi’ilin and other places. No tanks tops, no shorts, etc.

Please note that appropriate dress, including pants that go down to your ankles and shirts that do not show your chest would be greatly appreciated.
For more information contact:

Some leftwing female protest are upset with this openly anti-feminist, sexist attitude and demands of the organizers. It’s becoming a dividing issue between the various leftist groups and protesters who regularly show up to protest the existence of Israel, the settlers, the fence, or whatever they claim it is about that day and place.

The female protesters have been told that it for cultural sensitivity reasons. The Arabs are from a more modest culture. The Arab elders are afraid the Arab youth will be corrupted. Blah Blah Blah.

Unfortunately, what they’re being told is a lie. The real reason is far more insidious.

Back in July, Ha’aretz reported the story of a former Arab convict named Alladin who would find these young female peace activist staying in nearby villages, he would tell them he was on the run from the Shabak (Israel security), and ask them to hide him.

These young female dupes would of course be happy to help an Arab on the lam from the Israeli authorities and let him sleep in their rooms.

So far one girl initially came forward about the attempted rape against her. She was found wandering the village of Umm Salmuna (near Bethlehem) in a state of shock, so who knows if the attempt actually failed. But in the end retracted her story due to pressure to “not hurt the cause”.

Pressure that came from the PA and the leftwing protest organizers.
Haaretz had learned that representatives of both the popular protest movement and the PA have since applied pressure on the American peace activist as to prevent her from making the story public.
The story could have ended there, except that there’s more.

Apparently, quite a number of female protesters have been sexually assaulted and molested by the Arabs they are protesting for.

One attack occurred just recently in Bil'in.

After the army fired smoke gas towards the rioting crowd of “peace” activists and Arabs, the protesters ran. One Arab decisively used the smoke cover as an opportunity to sexually assault one of the more seasoned female activists.

The problem has gotten so bad, that some female protesters have stopped showing up to the protests.

What’s going on here is that Rachel C. (name randomly picked to illustrate the point) calls her friends telling them she going out to protest for the Arabs, meanwhile Alladin calls up his friends in the village and tells then he knows where they can get easy women. And everyone show up with some very different expectations, but with Alladin and friends apparently getting what they came for.

Two months ago, some of the radical leftwing organizers started running secret workshops.

The workshops are organized by the radically left Dr. Yvonne Deutch and Dorit Gorny.

The subject?

How to deal with sexual harassment during direct activities against the occupation”.
The workshop is for female and transgender activists. (Seriously, it says that.)

The document isn’t available online to the public, but can be found in the Google cache.

The stated goal of the workshop is how to deal with the sexual assaults and harassment of activists at the Friday solidarity protests.

You'll note that this workshop was announced in the beginning of June. Almost 3 months ago. They've been aware of this problem for a long time already.

And if rape and sexual assault weren't enough, one female Arab from of Sheikh Jarrah has been telling the protesters to stop bringing their Gay Pride flags to the protest because they don’t like gays and she would like to kick them all out of the country. I assume the protester she told this to was gay.

Where once the Arabs would only say these activists are their dogs while the leftists (if they understood the Arabic) would have no problems with the put-down, it has gone way beyond that now.

Rape and sexual assault are serious issues, but these leftists organizers have been knowingly expanding the boundaries of what it means to be a tool. And these foolish protesters who keep showing up to help the "victims of the occupation", learn quickly enough that these "victims"aren't interested in their protesting as much as they are interested in simply using the activists for personal gratification.

Dr. Yvonne, according to the workshop description, blames it on the occupation, and the activists not knowing enough about boundaries and personal/group responsibility.

For someone protesting against a security fence meant to keep out Arab suicide bombers from killing innocent civilians, I'd say these protesters and organizers know nothing about boundaries at all.

Was Rachel Corrie raped by her Arab hosts? Did she throw herself in front of the bulldozer as a desperate cry for help? Was she angry at her attackers and ISM sponsors but could only express it against Israel?
I'm not even the first to consider the possibility: http://bloodthirstyliberal.com/?p=13029

They are so self-hating that they teach such considerations in how they interact with Arabs but cant figure out how to relate to fellow Jews?

Why haven't these organizers been arrested? They know the peace ninnies they're bringing to the protests and even flying into Israel are likely to be sexually molested, they've been part of covering it up and they're hushing it up. They're enablers for sexual predators. They're Kolkos.

This just shows how crazy the activists are. Anyone sane would say these people are not worth the bother. Also, the Arab woman who said she would kick gays out of the country is just showing how tolerant the Arabs would be if they were in charge. Why would a leftist want to replace one oppressive regime with another?

just seen your blog
why cant you spell 'kivisi' on the top of your blog properly?

The only self-hating Jew I see here is the writer and his fellow worshippers, who de-legitimize the legitimate (and in my eyes- admirable) actions of human rights activists.

Sexual harrassments are everywhere, and know no boundaries between Left/right/Arabs/Jews. It's a good thing these activisits are aware and relating to this issue.

I wonder how much awareness Joesettler and his friends have to this issue, if they mistakenly attibute it to a specific activity or group of people. Probably, I shouldn't expect much from this bunch of extremists who make my daily life here in their precious "Eretz Yisrael", which they claim to hold so dear, much harder and immoral.

Whew, so many brave Anonymous voices.

Third from last: That's the way you spell in Israel today. It's called "ktiv maleh." Open an Israeli newspaper and you'll see it. Machon-Mamre has the whole Tanach written that way.

Second from last: Are you arguing with any specific facts? Because if not, your post is just nonsensical.

Last: Ditto. And it's interesting that your life has become "immoral." That's a neat trick, to make someone *else* immoral.

By the way, speaking of "harder," I had to go through two metal detectors today (and then again a third time) just to get into one office. Who caused that?

Just wanted to point out, the text says that the meeting is meant for men, women and transgenders - which isn't that extraordinary in any organized event where people are liberal. (not just women and transgenders).

I think it's good that they are aware of sexual harassment as an issue, but reading about some analysis of it in terms of reversed "occupation" relationship turns my stomach.

Of course the organizers are aware of it. They tried to hush up Fegin when she started to report her rape to prevent damage to their cause.

Anonymous @ 12:46 PM: Sexual harrassments are everywhere, and know no boundaries between Left/right/Arabs/Jews.

I've gotta hand it to you, that's a nice touch -- the way you dismissively reduce the crimes under discussion -- sexual assault and rape -- by nonchalantly downgrading them to mere "sexual harrassment". You make it sound as if someone like Alladin is no different from the sleazy boss on The Office, who makes innuendo-loaded comments to his female coworkers, or a slimy construction worker who shouts crude catcalls at female passersby. Your backhanded reduction of the issue to "sexual harrassment" is clever enough to make sufficiently stupid people forget that we're actually talking about rape.

If you don't mind, I have a question for you regarding your self-professed "admiration" for the ISM: Which aspect of their activities, exactly, do you find the most "admirable"?

(a) Do you primarily "admire" their active support for terrorists -- like the time that they harbored the suicide bomber Asif Muhammad Hanif (just before he blew up the "Mike's Place" bar/restaurant in Tel Aviv), or Shadi Sukiya (the terrorist who planned the suicide bus bombings of September 2002 and October 2003)?

(b) Or is your "admiration" more for the way that the ISM successfully coerces young victims of rape/attempted rape (such as "Fegin", the American girl described in the Haaretz article) into recanting their stories so as not to "hurt the Cause"?

I know that this must be a difficult question: For people like yourself, I'm sure that both of these activities are highly "admirable", and it must be very difficult to choose between them.

One final observation regarding your "admiration" for those who support terrorists that bomb Israeli restaurants and buses, and who launch rockets at Israeli kindergartens -- which you juxtaposed with your disdain for people like the author of this post, who had the unmitigated gall to actually talk about the activities of those terrorist supporters: Your own admitted failure to see any "self-hating Jews" can be very easily recified by simply looking in a mirror.

Haaretz says the protest organizers are trying to hush up the publication of the sexual assault and rape stories. Why are some of your liberal readers trying to defend the organizers or deflect the blame by saying assault occurs in all communities? Why are they trying to excuse the organizers by saying they started prevention courses, when the basis for the prevention course is that the Arab molesters are not guilty for their actions but a result of the occupation, and the female protesters needs to learn boundaries and personal responsibility to prevent these attacks. Is this message normal for rape and molestation prevention training? Somehow I don't think so. Haaretz, the liberal's paper is reporting that numerous attacks have happened. Why are some of your liberal readers denying it. Haaretz is not a neo-con tabloid. It's one of their own. As someone who defines himself in the center, I find this denial very worrisome and troubling.

Not so long ago 'canibalism' in Africa was considered a cultural 'thing' until visitors started getting eaten... Finally the 'canibals' were isolated and 'canibalism' was declared illegal. When will these lefty ladies start learning the 'facts of life'? That rape is illegal and offenders should be put in prison. That women should be treated differently.

At the beginning of the post you (Joe) stated that there is a reason female protesters are asked to dress modestly. Then you jump to a discussion about Arabs raping female protesters. What is the connection between the two?

Are you suggesting that a reason the left-wing organizations ask female protesters to dress modestly is because then they will be less likely to be raped? I doubt that immodestly-dressed protesters are more likely to be raped than modestly dressed protesters.

JoeSettler said...

SquarePeg613.
I'm not the one suggesting the connection.
It is some of left-wing organizers that are suggesting that their is a connection between their activists being sexually harassed and molested and the way they are dressed.
They are fighting internally about it.

Sections of the Israeli women's movement have struggled with where the boundaries should be regarding outreach into conservative subcultures for a long time, not just with regards to Palestinian society, but also within the Charedi and Dati worlds, in terms of cultural sensitivies and how to, or whether to, address them.

Palestinian feminists too are at odds over this question, as they continue with their struggle. Secular activists in Ramallah, for example, are less likely to comply with dressing "modestly" than those working in outlying communities dominated by clerics, etc.

So, yes, Palestinian society discriminates against women, that is a known and documented fact. But...that doesn't make the "Leftists" at fault regarding the incident you cite. The pains being taken to ask the women to dress "modestly" to me say more with regards to the confused factions congregating at Sheikh Jarrah than anything else. Attempting to educate naive Israeli women about potential sexual harrasment between cultures is a preventative step that should be applauded. Of course questions regarding the occupation and blame will emerge in that type of discussion. However, I would not even for a second imagine that of the organizers of the workshop who you say are "fighting internally" are CONDONING the attitude of Palestinian society vis a vis Israeli women's secular dress, rather trying to come up with ways to address the culture clash and keep everyone calm. Again, in view of the sensitivies of the situation, these are complex and laudable steps.

You should guest post articles like this on some liberal blog, not yours. Otherwise people will ignore the content.

In such a conservative culture such as Israels, I would assume you would not condone the provocative behavior of the Women of the Wall, chametz being sold publicly on Pesach, and cafes open on Tisha B'Av since all of these offend conservative minded sensibilities. In fact you would demand liberals undergo preventive sensitivity training to insure harmonious coexistence of the fragile fabric of Israeli life.

...and as an objective observer you sound like an apologist for Palestinian sexual attacks on women.

Was is also "laudable" when the organizers coerced the (attempted?) rape victim into keeping silent about what was done to her, and into not pressing charges? Does your assertion that they were not "at fault" include even that as well?

I couldn't help but notice that you avoided mentioning that part entirely.
