Obama's website compares Israel to Nazis

Lurker found this piece of pure anti-Semitism on Barack Obama's Organizing for America blog. As far as I can tell, this blog, which is a project of the Democratic National Committee, and calls itself the official successor to the Obama for America campaign, is fine with it.

The post is called Nazi Israel … Indeed and barely a paragraph goes by which doesn't call Israel and Israelis Nazis.

[UPDATE: Following the negative publicity, the Obama people took the post down. But you can still see it here, in Google's cache.]

This wonderful post includes gems like:

"Professor Falk had a little taste of Israel’s Nazi-like crimes"

"Comparing the present-day Israel with Nazi Germany one discovers that the majority of the Israeli policies are the exact copies of the Nazi policies."

"Israel is, still up till today, carrying these same genocidal Nazi-like holocaustal crimes"

"Worse than the Nazis the Israeli army had adopted the policy of targeting young Palestinian children"

And it finishes off with:

"Israelis and Jews of the world have relentlessly pursued Nazi war criminals for decades for their war crimes committed during WWII. They chased Nazi war criminals for the rest of their lives, even when they were old and close to their death, to make them pay for their crimes. No doubts in my mind that Israeli war criminals, in turn, will be pursued and sentenced for their war crimes committed against Arabs."

Now the site has a disclaimer that says, "Content on blogs in My.BarackObama represents the opinions of community members and in no way should be interpreted as endorsed or approved by the campaign."

While I'm sure that line provides good legal cover and distance, is anti-Semitic Nazi drivel like this really what Barack Obama and the Democratic National Committee really want to be seen as representing?

(Maybe?)

Regardless of the disclaimer, these are people they've chosen to associate with and allow to post on their blog.

Old City Riots

The Arabs are rioting around the Old City of Jerusalem today after Police limited access to the Temple Mount due to threats of further Arab Temple Mount riots that began last week on Yom Kippur (you knew about that, right?).

A bus full of Arab "protesters" on Road 6 on the way to the Temple Mount was caught and turned around. (It is not clear if this is connected to the 70 Arabs found crammed into a refrigeration truck that were being smuggled somewhere by an Arab from Abu Ghosh).

Senior Fatah (PA) and Islamic Movement officials have been arrested and received court orders distancing them from the Old City after it was uncovered they were directing the riots.

Multiple incidents of Rock throwing in Gush Etzion.

Molotov cocktails thrown at police in Jerusalem.

Other stuff happening.

We should start seeing a clearer picture of today's events soon enough.

Ahmadinejad the Jew?

Heard this tidbit tonight while enjoying a simchat beit ha'shoeva -- a small get-together with friends in their sukka, and then found my inbox inundated with email from people about the same story (thanks everyone for the info!)

The UK Daily Telegraph broke the story today:
A photograph of the Iranian president holding up his identity card during elections in March 2008 clearly shows his family has Jewish roots.

A close-up of the document reveals he was previously known as Sabourjian – a Jewish name meaning cloth weaver.

The short note scrawled on the card suggests his family changed its name to Ahmadinejad when they converted to embrace Islam after his birth.

The Sabourjians traditionally hail from Aradan, Mr Ahmadinejad's birthplace, and the name derives from "weaver of the Sabour", the name for the Jewish Tallit shawl in Persia. The name is even on the list of reserved names for Iranian Jews compiled by Iran's Ministry of the Interior.

Experts last night suggested Mr Ahmadinejad's track record for hate-filled attacks on Jews could be an overcompensation to hide his past.
There are many "overcompensation" type stories in the past; one that comes to mind is about the Arabs of Tzurif near Gush Etzion, who killed the "Lamed Heh" 35 Haganah soldiers to provided reinforcements to the besieged Gush Etzion communities in 1948. After killing the soldiers, the Tzurif Arabs mutilated the bodies of the soldiers so badly, it was impossible to identify them.

Some say that the hatred towards Jews harbored by Tzurif was an overcompensation for their Jewish roots, and they have to prove themselves as not being loyal. I have heard that on the old homes in Tzurif you can even see mezuza indentations.

So...is Ahmadinejad a Jew? Other than being an historical oddity, I don't find it of much relevance. He's a madman, leading a country threatening to destroy Israel.

hat-tips; Julie, 2Big2Fail, Israel W, and others...

Every Sukkah an (Illegal) Outpost

There is a story that in the USSR, there was a Jew who wanted to properly celebrate Sukkot. So the Jew went and built a Sukkah on his porch. The neighbors complained. And the man didn't want to get thrown in jail for practicing Judaism, so he told the judge he built an extension to his apartment. The judge gave him 8 days to take it down.

This Sukkot tens of thousands of Jewish families have decided they will be building illegal outposts all over Judea and Samaria.

Jews all over the country have decided to help and will be selling modular illegal outposts on every street corner to help their Settler brothers maintain our hold on Eretz Yisrael.

But unlike in the USSR story, many of these Sukkot/outposts are not going to be taken down after 8 days (at least that is the plan).

This campaign has already begun, and soon, all over the world, everyone will see Jews sitting in solidarity with their embattled brethren in Eretz Yisrael.

Think about it, where ever you are in the world, when you build and sit in your Sukkah this Sukkot, remember that you are showing solidarity with the tens of thousands of Jewish families in Judea and Samaria who are building and sitting in (Obama defined "illegal") outposts, homes, towns, and cities in Eretz Yisrael - and you will be showing everyone your support for us.

Imagine that, fulfilling a mitzvah and publicly protesting against Obama's statements - all at the same time.

Chag Sameach and thank you!

The Shabbat Elevator Debacle Continues

Never missing an opportunity to take a religious issue and paint it in the most ugly shades of hate possible, Haaretz provides the following daily cartoon:

The Haaretz English edition is more reserved (Could it be that its more reserved so as not to appear antisemitic in front of the whole planet? There are notable anti-religious exceptions like Bradley Burston, the translated articles from Gideon Levy, etc.)

Their English edition story about the Shabbat Elevator ruling brings reactions from residents at an Ultra Orthodox nursing home, and is far more newsworthy.
Tovei Ha'Ir residents have been using elevators on the Sabbath for years - this is the only way they can get from their rooms on the upper floors to the dining hall and synagogue.

One of the retirees, a Haredi man, barely concealed his sarcasm when he responded, "What changed suddenly? What was kosher until now is suddenly treyf?"

Another woman was releaved to hear the edict was issued by Rabbi Yosef Sholom Elyashiv, the head of the Lithuanian Haredi community.

"Lucky for me that he isn't my rabbi," she said. "I only follow the Gerrer rebbe," she said.

Residents were unanimous in their opposition.

This is an edict that will not work," one said. "If we all adhere to it, not only will we not leave our rooms on Shabbat, but life in places like Manhattan will come to a standstill."

Meanwhile, the Hareidim website brings an even more ridiculous angle. Citing an unnamed source, "close to R' Shalom Elyashiv" -- "the cartoon that was published in a secular newspaper shows the depth of their frustration that there are Jews willing to climb up the stairs for 12 floors, so as not to transgress the Shabbat."
