Who is Jameel at The Muqata?

Does the shock value of a blog called the "Muqata" with a blogger called Jameel, outweigh the disadvantage of having such a "radical" sounding name? Would a calmer sounding blog name, such as "settlerabba" be the right thing to do?

The number one way people come to this blog is by reading comments I've made on other blogs...and they must think to themselves, "What the heck is this guy Jameel writing about...what sort of Jewish name is Jameel...and the muqata?!" Curiosity gets the better of them, and they click on my blogger profile. From there...to the blog...and then they read this.

My wife thinks it's pathetic to have a blog named "The Muqata" (sorry dear)

Let me know what you think...the jury's still out.

Shabbat Shalom - no new posts till Sunday.

I think the name of the blog and the pen name both fit. I think that it sets the tone for the blog from the beginning.

Then maybe I am just a might bit confused on this. After all I'm just a little wolf.

I like it. No need to change!

I think you should keep Jameel. Then again, I might just be jealous due to a fairly boring name of my own...

Keep it. It's novel and refreshing in my blogline of Jewish blogs.

You should have chosen a Jewish name like "Cosmic X" :-)

Jameel, keep it.

Jameel... You are the Jewish Blogsphere's international man of mysetry, why ruin it?

Yeah, your wife might think your pathetic, but what else is new. My wife thinks I'm pathetic too for taking my blog so seriously.

Also, Think about it, if you were Shmuley from Israel, it just would be so boring...

It's an awesome name. How else could I put "Muqata" on my blogroll!?

It is definitely intriguing. I vote keep. (7-0 so far...)

yes, I say keep it too. all the crazy muslims who come to my blog get to see the words "muqata" on my blogroll, so they think that I am one of their self-hating Jewish supporters.

Then they read my posts and send me hate email. I love it, so don't change it.

Hey Jameel,

The blog and blogger names are cool.

What you could do for your wife, using all the dough you'll earn from the 'banner ads' is buy her a big, armoured 'Escalade' with 'MUQATA' on the license plates, and about a kilo of rose gold with diamonds and rubies that spell out 'Mrs. Jameel' in arabic to wear as a necklace...

"SettlerAbba", give me a break, what are you going to write nursery rhymes on your blog? :-)

I like it.

And yet, can't find any Arab bloggers calling themselves Yossi at the Midrachov or suchlike.

pp: Any Arab calling himself Yossi on the Midrachov is definitely about to blow himself up (and attempting to take the rest of us with him).

I agree with that amazing Anonymous comment! Keep the Muqata, Jameel -- We love it!!!

Little Wolf: Sets what tone exactly? That radical, eh? ;-)

Mike: At least you have the guts to use your real name...or maybe that's not your real name.

gregoryt: Thanks! Glad to be on your bloglines.

Ezzie: Change it the "The Muqata" -- sounds more ominous that way!

CosmicX: LOL!

Elchonon: I'm still experimenting with the blogroll! Chill out dude...nothing personal, sheesh! On the bottom of my blog its not arranged at all by location. BTW - does anyone know howt use blogrolling to categorize (or should I use 2 different blogrolls?)

Muse & Jack: Thanks! Though my wife still doesn't like it...

PP: An arab using a Jewish name in an Arab forum? Give me a break...he'd be dead in seconds.

Anonymous: The likelyhood of my wife wearing the diamond necklace you described at any event other than a purim party...is about the same oas DovBear advocating collateral damage.

Amshi: Nu, when you coming for a visit?

Yitz: OK, no nursery rhymes...this week.

Shavua Tov and Shukran to all!

Ha, I agree with Joe Settler, that's some funny stuff.

PP said...

Joe Settler- I was merely trying to find an equivalent as implausible for an Arab to use as "The Muqata" is for "Jameel" to use.

And you clearly don't get to the Midrachov much, do you!

Keep the name.
There's only one Jameel in the Jewish Blogosphere.
