The September Shuffle

September promises to be a challenging time for Israel.

In September, the Palestinian Authority will further abrogate the Oslo Accords and unilaterally go to the UN to be granted statehood based on the ’67 armistice line. At this point it will immediately be in a state of war (as if it wasn’t already) with the Jewish state. And the UN will probably consider sanctions against Israel.

(As a reminder, the land of Israel, including that of Judea and Samaria were apportioned at the 1922 San Remo conference for the Jewish state.)

At present, there doesn’t seem too much that Israel can do to stop this.

But perhaps there is.

If nothing else, Israel can (preemptively?) annex (or threaten to annex) areas C, declaring that we are prepared to negotiate the status of area A, and maybe area B. That would change a lot of issues that are currently taken for granted.

Perhaps the threat would also be enough to make them think twice, but probably not. Certainly at a minimum, the legal battle would be on different terms than they are today.

I was listening to a talk by Professor Guy Bechor of the IDC the other day.

He has an interesting position and solution.

He said that Israel is at a disadvantage against the Palestinian Authority, because they are considered “moderate” by the world, even if they aren’t.

He adds that the Palestinian Authority has not collapsed yet for one reason. Israel.

The IDF keeps Hamas at bay, thus sustaining the Palestinian Authority. The Foreign Ministry completely agrees with this assessment.

Bechor proposes that Israel pull back the IDF from operations in the Arab controlled areas and stop security cooperation at that level.

The world would applaud Israel (for a day or so) for pulling out.

But at this point, it is only a short time until the Palestinian Authority is overthrown by Hamas, which is more explicit in their goal to destroy Israel.

We would have a situation in Areas A of Judea/Samaria like we have in Gaza.

Bechor believes that perhaps enough of the world would accept the concept that a Hamas controlled territory doesn’t deserve a recognized state.

And yes, there would be a rise in terrorism attempts, but for Bechor, the September threat of the Palestinian Authority is an existential one for Israel, whereas Hamas is something we can contain as we already do in Gaza.

Some concerns I have with his idea is that it assumes that Hamas will try to take over immediately instead of waiting until after September, and that it is unlikely that Hamas-Fatah will form a unity government.

(I just found an article where Bechor puts forward some of these ideas)

New Palestinian Hit Song: "Pull The Trigger"

USA taxdollars are now financing an ad campaign in Israel featuring huge billboards of Palestinian terrorists asking you to "accept" their "partnership" with Israel.

I saw a bunch of these in Kfar Saba last night, and found the corresponding UPI article:
"The campaign launched Sunday includes the faces of senior Palestinian Authority officials Saeb Erekat, Jibril Rajoub and Yasser Abed Rabo, and Riad Malki, Palestinian foreign affairs minister, Yedioth Aharonoth said.

The aim of the campaign is to persuade Israelis that peace partners on the Palestinian side truly exist, and calls for support of a two-state solution, the Tel Aviv newspaper said.

The U.S. government was approached to fund the campaign by the Geneva Initiative founders, who drew up an agreement in 2003 to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the newspaper said.

The U.S. Agency for International Development, or USAID, invested close to $250,000 toward the creation of the billboards, the newspaper said.

The campaign has raised a few eyebrows in Israel.

"We are talking about a Palestinian Authority campaign funded by the American government," an Israeli Foreign Ministry official was quoted saying."
The following is a much better representation of the "Geneva Initiative"

All kidding aside (though this is far from a laughing matter), PMW found the following video for us, which was paid for by the Palestinian Authority.

The following is a transcript and description of the performance:

Band member recites a poem:
"Fight, brother, the flag will never be lowered,
the torches will never die out."
On [Mt.] Carmel (in Israel) and in the [Jordan] Valley,
we are rocks and streams.
In Lod (Israeli city) we are poems, and in Ramle (Israeli city) - grenades.
We, my brother, shall remain the revolution of the fighting nation."
Vocalist sings:
"The Zionists went out from [their] homelands,
compounding damage and enmity.
But the Palestinian revolution awaits [them].
The orchard called us to the [armed] struggle.
We replaced bracelets with weapons.
We attacked the despicable [Zionists].
This invading enemy is on the battlefield.
This is the day of consolation of Jihad.
Pull the trigger.
We shall redeem Jerusalem, Nablus and the country."
[PA TV (Fatah), Sept. 12, 2010]

Or watch it here:

The US is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars trying to convince Israelis to give away their homeland and security to this "partner."

Maybe this money would be better invested in the USA's economy?

Maligning Hevron's Jews -- Calling them Dogs

JPost: Setters Return to "Federman Farm"
"Setter" From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Setter is a type of gundog used most often for hunting game such as quail, pheasant, and grouse. A setter silently searches for game by scent. When prey is encountered the dog's behavior defies nature, and the dog freezes rather than chases after the game. Setters get their name from their distinctive stance; a sort of crouch or "set" upon finding their quarry. Most setters are born with a natural proclivity to hunting. Dogs which show excitement and interest in birds are described as being "birdy", and trainers look for puppies that show this particular trait. Training is usually done with domesticated pigeons. The ancestors of modern setters probably originated in Spain in the 1500s and evolved from spaniels. Later these dogs were exported to France and England where the breeds were developed into today's varieties. Most setter breeds have long smooth, silky coats that require maintenance. Setters have a tendency to be happy, playful dogs and are usually very friendly both to people and other dogs. They have a great deal of energy and require daily exercise. Setters include the following breeds: English Setter, Gordon Setter, Irish Setter (also called a red setter), Irish Red and White Setter, Black Welsh Setter, Russian Setter.
But Seriously.

Forget the stupid typo in the JPost: What was Federman Farm destruction all about?

Elisheva Federman described the ordeal on Saturday night to YNET:

"It was a regular Saturday evening. We were cleaning after Shabbat. Our nine children went to sleep. I finished working on a paper for school, Noam was on the computer, when we suddenly heard dogs barking.

"We received a phone call that massive forces were headed towards us. Noam went out to see what was happening, and then Yasamniks ((Israel Police special patrol unit) jumped on him. I haven't seen him since.

"I saw herds of black uniform. I locked the door, but they broke into the house, smashed the windows, and all this without any warning. The children woke up and came to my room.

"Three of the children – aged six, eight and 12 – asked me what to do. I told them to go to Givat Haharsina, knock on good people's doors and ask them to take them to their grandfather and grandmother in Kiryat Arba.

"They pulled out the entire contents of the house. Everything that was in the cupboards – books, clothes, money. They forcibly removed us from the house and took us to the Gush Etzion Junction. They said we were all under arrest. Me and six other children – aged one, three, nine, 14, 16 and 17.

"They destroyed the entire house and cut off its gas supply. Several hours later, they told us we were not under arrest and let me go back to the house to take the car. I saw the complete destruction in the place and they told me, 'Take what you want.'

"Eighteen years of marriage are folded under the wreckage. I didn’t even have Materna to take for the baby. The oldest daughter was taken to the police station and was arrested after her hand was broken."

The Federman family has been living in the place for two and a half years. According to the residents, the far had been manned for 11 years. Elisheva Federman said there was no legal motive for the evacuation.

"We have had right of possession on this land for 10 years. No Arab has demanded it. We launched legal proceedings and paid a lot of money. How can they do this without any warning? I hope God gives us the strength to return. We have no property now. We can build a tent there. We have nothing to lose," she said.

Photos of the destruction of the Federman's home. They were not allowed to save anything from the home till after it was destroyed. They were only shown the destruction and eviction orders after the home was destroyed.

This comes at the same time that Defense Minister Ehud Barak has just authorized 600 armed Fatah "policemen" to enter Hevron. These policemen were trained under the supervision of the United States.

It boggles the mind that the US has anything to do with Palestinian Policemen training, considering that the Palestinians attribitue the large number of Israelis killed and wounded in the current Intifada -- to the credit of their American training.
"I do not think that the operations of the Palestinian resistance would have been so successful and would have killed more than one thousand Israelis since 2000 and defeated the Israelis in Gaza without these [American] trainings," a senior officer of President Abbas's Force 17 Presidential Guard unit, Abu Yousuf, said.

America has longstanding training programs at a base in the West Bank city of Jericho for members of Force 17, which serves as de facto police units in the West Bank, and for another major Fatah security force, the Preventative Security Services.

This weekend diplomatic security officials announced that the State Department will begin training Force 17 again this year in an effort to bolster Mr. Abbas against Hamas, which took over the Gaza Strip in June when the terror group easily defeated American-backed Fatah forces in the territory. [NY SUN]

In addition to Fatah policemen's recent spate of terrorist activities, Tanazim "operatives" were responsible for the murder of Hevron's 10 month old Shalhevet Pass.

Warning: If you have the stomach, see the story and photo here. Its important to see, but I advise against children viewing it.

In Chelm, they tell jokes about Israel

Can you believe it? I'm still rubbing my eyes in disbelief.

Out of 180 wanted Fatah Palestinian terrorists who were "delisted" from Israel's "most wanted" list 2 months ago as a "good will gesture of peace"...more than 2/3's of them are still illegally carrying automatic weapons.

The security establishment is even calling the agreement..."a failure"?!

Say it can't be!

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert personally approved this plan...so how could it have possibly gone so awry?

But the people in Chelm have already finished chortling over this one. They are getting ready for the upcoming joke of the year...the upcoming Israeli/Arab US-brokered Annapolis "Capitulate to Terror" "Split Jerusalem in Two" "Peace Talks."
Speaking ahead of international peace conference, European Union spokeswoman says EU supports Arab initiative in full, and will demand right of return be included in all negotiations between Israel and Palestinians; calls on Arab League to step up involvement in talks. (more hilarity over at YNET)
Even the people in Chelm think it's gone too far.

Hamas gives Fatah a taste of their own medication

Exclusive pictures from AL-Aksa TV of Fatah Terrorists in their underwear being escorted from their positions as they surrender to Hamas Terrorists...

The world is horrified (well, not really too much) as Hamas declares war on rival Fatah terrorists; shootings, RPGs, attacking hospitals, throwing people from buildings, are all the norm these days in Gaza.

Some even feel sorry for Fatah, thinking they are "moderate" terrorist who can be reasoned with.

(DryBones is featured on YNET and on the DryBones Blog)

There's a famous expression from the Talmud, "Zeh Neveila, Zeh Treifa". One refers to an animal which died a violent death, and one refers to an animal that died of natural causes. In both cases -- the meat from the animals is not kosher to eat.

Both the Hamas and Fatah are terrorist organizations. Both proudly count among their membership those who have murdered, wounded and maimed Jews through shootings, suicide bombings, bus attacks, airplane attacks, car bombs, donkey bombs, bicycle bombs, teenager suicide bombers, women suicide bombers, Qassam rockets, Katyushas, and every means of destruction available to their disposal.

The are organizations based on a culture of death.

Don't mourn their civil war.

Just like the 7 year war between Iran and Iraq, let's just sit on the sidelines...

Arabs betray America (again)...pass the Humus.

Israeli columnist, Nahum Barnea analyzes the Palestinian Authority Meccafest, where terror groups Fatah and Hamas try to live together in harmony (i.e., stop killing each other, so they can focus on killing Israelis)
The bad news is that once again we are like rabbits caught in the headlights of a car. The really embarrassing news is that we are stuck there along with the United States.

By the time the agreement between Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas was signed in Mecca on Thursday, the American Administration had been betrayed three times: Once by Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, then by Saudi king Abdullah, and finally by Abbas. These three American allies ignored Condoleezza Rice's pleas; they negotiated with Khaled Mashaal and bent her will in his favor.

The agreement constitutes a severe blow to Rice's reputation in Washington. Despite the White House's warnings, she has been investing much effort in a bid to strengthen and glorify Abbas. Next Monday, on February 19th, she was set to have been rewarded for her efforts in a festive summit under her auspices. The summit between Ehud Olmert and Abbas would have served as a first step towards commencing talks between the two sides. The agreement signed in Mecca has emptied the summit of content.

Currently Rice is debating whether to hold the summit or cancel it. Via diplomatic channels, Abbas promised to wait with the establishment of the Palestinian national unity government until after the summit. From Rice's point of view this is small consolation. Abbas is actually seeking to remain under US patronage as if the agreement he signed with Hamas does not exist, and to cooperate with Hamas as if America, the Quartet and Israel do not exist. Rice is finding this a bit too much to swallow.

Abbas and his associates did not go to Mecca by choice, but rather, out of fear. The violent clashes between Fatah forces and Hamas threatened to escalate into a full blown civil war. Abbas is not cut out for this type of conflict. He feared that anarchy would turn the Palestinian Authority into a Middle Eastern model of Somalia. And perhaps, as Israeli sources argued, he also feared for his own life. Either way, he preferred temporary calm with Hamas over a long-term treaty with the Americans. The Saudis and the Egyptians followed suit.

The US Administration believed it could cultivate a Sunni coalition that would span from North America to Lebanon and would stand up against Iran's Shiite megalomania. The Mecca agreement, signed last week, will force the Americans to rethink the situation. Perhaps those who are proposing that the Administration regard the Arab-Israeli conflict as a lost cause and focus their attention on other parts of the world are right. Perhaps they are right in proposing that Hamas' terrorist traits be ignored. Alternately, perhaps those proposing that the US Administration encourage talks between Israel and Syria are right. (More on YNET)

Unfortunately, Barnea really believes that glorifying Abbas "the moderate Sunni" will bring about the possibility of change.

Fundamentalist Islam is not the only threat to Israel, and "moderate" Sunnis, which the US State Department, Dr. Dore Gold, and others like to consider as realistic alternatives, are only possibilities -- if they aren't terrorists.

Glorifying a terrorist and holocaust denier like Abbas is what exacerbates the problem -- it does absolutely nothing for peace in the Middle East.
