Who's Next?

NYTimes:

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Wednesday that his country's nuclear program was irreversible, showing continued defiance in the face of possible new U.N. sanctions.

He claimed that Iran now had 3,000 centrifuges to enrich uranium in its Natanz nuclear plant. Enriched uranium can fuel power plants but also, if refined further, act as material for bombs.

I'm not sure that Philistines belong on that list. They were enemies, to be sure -- they wanted our land. But I don't think there's any basis for saying that they were attempting to "destroy the Jewish People", per se. On the other hand, the list ought to include Amalek, Moab, and Midian.

I'm going to take issue with Iran's inclusion as well.
While there's no doubt that Ahmedinejad is a terrible person, and deserves whatever he has coming at the hands of the IAF, it seems clear that his aim is not to destroy the Jewish people, rather the Jewish State.
A simple proof can be brought from the respect that the Iranian Jewish community has in the Iranian legislature, and their refusal to take $10,000 per family to immigrate to Israel!

Jameel,

i never like these drashas about how only the jews have persevered through the generations as there would-be anihalators have been anihilated.

all these supposed jewish victories have been phyrric ones. how many millions were lost before we emerged "victorious"?

a real defeat, for example, would have been in Germany and its cronies were crushed before it murdered 6 mil

i don't want to see iran added to the list once again only after the deaths of millions of jews.

huh?

"and their refusal to take $10,000 per family to immigrate to Israel!"

many iranian jews have fled iran and they continue to do so. (what's the difference whether they go to america or israel?)

in my building alone (in flatbush)there are 4 families who have come in the last 3 years. a few blocks away from my house is a new persian shul, populated mostly by new immigrants. and when you are finished with my neighborhood, check out great neck and LA; not everyone there came in 1979.

from what i understand most of those who remain do so because of old age/illness, family obligations, inability to liquidate businesses, etc.

they do not stay because they feel beloved.

You remind me of the people in the '50's who used to talk about how good it was for the Jews in the Soviet Union under Stalin. As "proof", they used to cite the presence of Jews in the Soviet legislature and the Party, and the fact that that so few Jews "opted" to emigrate.
