ObamaFreeze Falls, but...

More than anything else, it would appear to me that Israel's (smart) demands to have President Obama's post-Freeze related promises in writing were the real reason the latest ObamaFreeze failed to launch.

Even as Prime Minister Netanyahu tried to push through the latest ObamaFreeze with it dubious and questionable carrots, the Cabinet pushed back and demanded that everything told to Netanyahu verbally be put in writing.

And as Israel waited and waited for the promised letter, none proved to be forthcoming.

After all, there was simply no way that the US (and certainly the Obama administration) would ever put in writing, even a tacit understanding that building in Jerusalem would be allowed or approved, or any construction would be allowed or approved in Judea and Samaria after the retroactive 3 months.

That, more than the typical complete lack of any progress from the PA side, cut this idea down.

US administration officials are trying to save face and are saying that ObamaFreeze wouldn't have worked anyway.

Great. I guess it's good they realized that at some point, but it's a shame they couldn't realize that before their zig, their zag, and simply trying to place all the onus and responsibility on Israel.

Netanyahu is now demanding that issues important to Israel be placed at the forefront of talks - such as Israeli presence in the Jordan Valley for security reasons, and that discussions no longer revolve around only what is singularly important to the PA - for them to unilaterally declare their state (again).

But just because the Obama administration is down, does not mean it is out.

Israeli officials are saying that the Obama administration is already floating new unilateral demands (only) of Israel.

What are the new demands?

The anonymous Israeli officials haven't yet said, other than the ideas include more Israeli concessions and perhaps even a unilateral withdrawal.

All this without the Palestinians being required to give Israel something in exchange.

G-d saved the Jews from their own stupidity. Its time for them to stop rebelling against Him, accept His gift and build the entire country.

There can be no greater mitzvah! Its time to go forth and fulfill it.

Maybe they could have compromised by arranging for a secret diplomatic cable to that effect to appear on WikiLeaks...

That's the one thing He doesn't do.... If we don't recognize our folly we don't get anywhere. B"H someone demanded written commitments.

Why is it the Obama Freeze?

Netanyahu agreed to it, when previous prime ministers rejected calls for a freeze (eg Ehud Barak did not allow Geroge Bush to force him into a freeze the way Natanyahu capitulated)

So shouldn't it be called the Netanyahu Freeze?

Reports say that Obama is not going to allow us to buy another 20 F35s that the media publicized as a present.

Please report on the A7 violation of privacy rights of their site's users. They published something in hebrew about it but have tried to hide it from the English users of the site and haven't said a peep in english even though they've allowed the GSS to track anyone visiting their site.

This is an outrage!

All I know is that the Shabbak (GSS) demanded (perhaps with a court order) the IP address of a user on their Hebrew discussion forum.

If they have a court order, there is little A7 can do about it.

The outrage should be that the Shabbak are only targeting someone on the "right", while in left wing forums they incite with things that are far worse, more dangerous and more immediate.

Samson blinded reports: "The Court ordered the Arutz-7 web site to provide the General Security Service with the IP addresses of all its active users. "

See, in real democratic countries, where there are personal freedoms and rights enshrined in formative documents that define the country and system of law (Israel doesn't have any of that), such an "order" of a court would be met with derision and outcry that it deserves - not passive, fatalistic submission - and willing mesira.

The court has no legal basis to issue such a ruling. Oh, that's right, the court in Israel operates "ex cathedra" without any legal basis and it doesn't matter if what it says is based on a law - the court of Israel is the judge, jury, executioner, legislator, attorney, executive, commander in chief, to name just a few.

So what does it help to be outraged at a court with no checks or balances and with not a care in the world for any outrage or any concern with anything the populace says? A7 had a chance to do something heroic that could have maybe awakened the drugged-zombie populace, or at least resulted in some other benefit like the protection of those at risk by this decree-from-above whether the protected would comprehend it or not. But A7 does not even know of what battle needs to be fought let alone how to fight it. And that is the best we have? A7? We are doomed (chas veshalom).

I don't know if Samson Blinded is accurate. The report I saw said they asked for an IP address of a very specific user (who's username I've forgotten).
