With great sadness

While every death is difficult and of our soldiers more so, occasionally we find ourselves (or at least I find myself) reading over the lists of those killed in action or as a result of terrorism and breathing a sigh of relief when none of the names ring a bell. Occasionally though...one of those names does ring a bell. It happened once last week when Michael Levin was killed, I had met him in passing. We were both members of the same youth group, we ran across each other at the yearly reunion, so his death struck a bit more.
And then today, one of the soldiers killed in yesterday's fighting in Bint Jabaeil was the son of a person whom I work with. This is someone I see every day, run into in the halls, speak to at lunch. For a while we worked in the same department.

Jameel and I are occasionally flippant in our ongoing reporting of the situation here, it's moments like these that bring it back, that this isn't a joke, it's deadly serious.

May his memory, and those of all the soldiers who have lost their lives in the fight to save Israel from the hands of those who wish to see it destroyed, be as a blessing to us all and may their spirtual achievements be a shield for us.

Wherever I am, my blog turns towards Eretz Yisrael

sorry to hear about your friend... It is so pointless, especially when Olmert could be conducting this properly and that would minimize our losses...

Where has Jameel been? Up north again? miluim?

Amen and baruch dayan haemes.

I don't know if this is a comfort for this loss, but to prevent future ones...my father came home on Sunday with a name of an Israeli soldier that's his specific focus. They gave out names of soldiers in shul for each person to daven for, learn in the z'chus of, etc.

In the z'chus of that, may they all be safe and whole.

If anyone wants names of soldiers to daven for - please drop me an email...I have a whole bunch of names of neighbors who are currently up in Lebanon.
