US "Furious" over Israel's plan to build Hotel in Jerusalem

Move over settlement outposts, Haaretz reports that Washington (read: President Obama) is "furious" over Jerusalem's plan to build a 200 room hotel across from the Old City of Jerusalem.
"Washington is furious over the Interior Ministry's anticipated approval of a plan to build a new hotel in East Jerusalem, just 100 meters from the Old City's walls. The plan, which would see the demolition of a wholesale market and kindergarten, is slated to be approved today.

In conversations with Israeli officials, senior American officials have made it clear that they want Israel to freeze all plans for expanding the Jewish presence in East Jerusalem, and especially in the Holy Basin - the area adjacent to the Old City."
What a travesty of justice! Building a hotel on your own property...I can guarantee you that the "kindergarten" will be relocated and that all the kindergardeners will have a nicer place when moved.

The important keywords: Obama, Furious, Jewish building, Jerusalem

I am still trying to figure out why some of my Israel-loving friends/relatives voted for this guy. Sigh.

Note the focus of the media on the word "kindergarten." I couldn't find this news story on any non-Israel news sites.

Daniel, they will. Israel's fate doesn't interest them and they don't want to get on Obama's bad side.

As for the hotel, I guess Israel should hang out a "No Jews Allowed" as guests sign during construction to make it clear Jews will derive no benefit from building it. So just be honest about the settlement freeze. And where does the US get off telling Israel what to do in its own capital???

What a temper. He must be in the blackhouse all day.

Actually the kindergarten is invested with rats the size of cats coming from the wholesale market.

President Obama should check his country's claims to their land before going and telling another country whether or not to build. This is an Israeli piece of land..

I hear Obama (or Rahm) is using Chicago style intimidation tactics to get what he wants here in the US. What's the saying? In a democracy we get the government we deserve. Ugh. Love the picture!

the hotel should not be built.
it is a gross commercial incursion into a living community, and it would constitute a violation of the spirit of peaceful coexistence which should exist between the ethnic and religious communities in israel.

Norman... It is not the US that is saying anything negative. It is our (which I say sadly and very quietly) spineless, no knowledge of what is going on, talking out of both sides of his mouth, lying, unaware president. He has more than enough here to worry about without this. He has his agenda and is screwing anyone in his way....BEWARE of this guy!!!!!!!!!!!

American Observer: You obviously have no clue what the neighborhood is like -- as there are plenty of ARAB hotels right next to it -- like the "American Colony Hotel".

Commercial Incursion? Pathetic.

Jameel @ The Muqata, you obviously are a belligerent racist - as social justice dictates that arabs and non-arabs should be treated with equal rights, without discrimination.

israeli society has become blatantly racist, genocidal against palestinians, reveling in war crimes of the worst sort, and morally bankrupt. america should not support israel any longer.

the world might very likely be a better place without israel. it would certainly be a better israel without zionists. take the zionists away, and i believe israel would find its way to peaceful existence.
