This isn't a joke - Obama wins Nobel Peace Price

There is no bigger joke than this.

Obama, who has done nothing of note in his life besides winning the US Presidential election has also won the Nobel Peace Prize.

If you thought the Nobel Peace Prize proved worthless after Arafat got it, then this is just the nail in the coffin.

It's no joke that Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize. It's the Nobel Peace Prize that has become a joke.

UPDATE from Lurker: According to a statement from the Democratic National Committee, anyone who dares to criticize the decision to award Obama the Nobel Peace Prize, or who questions whether he deserves it, has "thrown in [his] lot with the terrorists - the Taliban and Hamas". Yes, really. Read it for yourself.

Prior to being elected president what did Senator Obama do to earn the peace prize?

Two weeks after Obama took office as president the nomination deadline for this year passed (Feb. '09). So who bought the prize for Obama?

digitaltoast said...

A lot of people are saying "I can't believe they gave Obama the Peace Prize", to which I'd say "I can't believe Fox News gave America George W Bush". At least some good is coming as a result of the former.

But I only just realised that it's an ADVANCE Nobel. If Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter and Sarag Palin choke and die on their breakfast cereal when they hear about this, the world will be a better place!

Unbelievable. WTF did he do to get a peace prize?

ProfK said...

Must be that all that salted codfish they eat in Norway that pickled the brains of the Nobel committee members. If there really was no one in the whole world this year who worked actively in the cause of peace they should have refused to give out the prize. It's not supposed to be a carrot to get someone to work for peace. It's going to be a long three years more.

I can't stand Shimon Peres, but he at least has actually worked to create peace with in his own misguided dream.

Considering this is Sweden, I'm not surprised. I defy any one to mention one accomplishment Obama has made in 9 months that has produced world peace. I'm scratching my head here!

O.K., here it is again:
Yes, Jameel is a nice person. He is a medic in the army. He has nice children. He often posts interestings things about Israel.
But...
If you haven't figured it out yet, he and his cobloggers are rabidly anti-Obama to the point of some weird obsession. True, President Obama's Israel policy is not to their liking, and his advocacy of the Palestinians and his desire to freeze settlment growth is obviously not something they would or should want, living where they do and believing what they do.
Still...
If you are a moderate or a leftist, or if you just don't loathe the President of the United States, do yourself a favor.
Read a different blog. Jameel and his friends will get it when the number of readers start to drop, or when he figures out that no one but like-minded people read his blog.
Yes, the choice of Obama for the Peace Prize is certainly unusual, but unless you really hate him, who really cares?
Goodbye Jameel. Don't worry, there are enough people who think like you do to keep your hits high. I'm just not one of them anymore.

It's hard not to notice that you are rather conspicuously failing to follow your own advice. For all your whiny insistence that people like yourself should not read this blog, you are clearly still reading it.

Anonymous: Goodbye Jameel.

That's funny; didn't you already say that yesterday? If you're gonna go, then go. Why are you still here? Nobody's forcing you to stay.

Anonymous: Don't worry, there are enough people who think like you do to keep your hits high. I'm just not one of them anymore.

Untrue, obviously.

You're like one of those annoying people who keeps saying over and over again that he's leaving now, but just stays at door yakking, even though everyone is wishing he'd just shut up and leave already, like he promised...

One more note for Mr. Anonymous who keeps promising to leave but doesn't (I'm 100% sure you're still here, reading this):

If you think people ought to boycott blogs that say its totally ridiculous to award Obama the Nobel Peace Prize, and that his getting it is a cheap political stunt -- then you definitely should make sure to stay away from other RW extremist anti-Obama blogs like DovBear, as well...

The left AND the right wingers are bitching about Obama. Clowns to the left of me. Jokers to the right. Here I am, stuck in the middle with him. I must say, he's looking better every day.

And he got it because he poses the best hope for peace this world has ever seen. Of course that doesn't mean anything will pan out, but he sure works for it.

And for all you right-wing douchebags, I'm a complete supporter of Israel. If Obama's road to peace doesn't work, I say follow the path of the biggest guns.

Only problem with that idea is that Obama wants to significantly reduce the size of the US military, and dismantle as much of the the US's Nuclear arsenal as he can.

At that point the biggest guns will not be owned by the US, only pointed at them.

While we're on the subject, you should also make sure to boycott Saturday Night Live as well. Last week, they skewered Obama over the fact that he has accomplished nothing in almost a year, and last night they lampooned his receipt of the Nobel Peace Prize, which they said he got for not other reason than the fact that he "is not George W. Bush".

Can you imagine? Look at all these people who "care" that Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. And as you put it so well, "unless you really hate him, who really cares?" So, obviously, then, DovBear and SNL must "really hate" him.

Yes, you'd better get to work now keeping people away from DovBear and SNL.

I have an idea for the title of a commentary on Obama's winning the Nobel Prize.

The title is "Me-Nobel B'rishut Hatorah" playing, of course, on the phrase "Menuval B'rishut Hatorah" (a rogue who finds a loophole in Torah law to do something despicable).

Any suggestions on where to take this thought?

If you value human life and human freedom, then it is clear that Obama is by far the worst president we have had in a very long time.

He is far more dangerous than Nixon and Carter combined, both of whom went to extremes in their willingness to coddle dictators, and to abandon the oppressed to their mercy of their oppressors (Nixon for pragmatic reasons, Carter for ideological ones).

It's not a Republican or Democratic thing. It's a moral thing. And for quite some time (decades) the farthest thing possible from human life and human freedom has been the Scandinavians and their appeasement prize.

Thank you for the kind words.

Regarding JoeSettler -- I trust that whatever your objections to his views, they do not extend to this particular post. After all, objections to Obama's suitability for the Nobel Peace Prize have been coming from nearly all quarters, and certainly not just the right. I just read a number of articles questioning the committee's decision on left-wing sites like the Huffington Post, the Daily Kos, and Andy Worthington. Arianna Huffington, in fact, has been loudly criticizing Obama for some time now (from the left, of course) for his failure to keep almost any of his campaign promises -- as have many other serious left-wing bloggers. With criticism of the Nobel committee's decision coming from places like DovBear, the Huffington Post, the Daily Kos, Andy Worthington, and even SNL, I presume you'd agree that there's no basis for singling out JoeSettler for criticism here.

P.S.: It's difficult to avoid mentioning, btw, that according to the DNC, the leftist authors of all the above cited blog posts have all "thrown in [their] lot with the terrorists - the Taliban and Hamas" -- just because they dared to raise questions regarding the wisdom of the Nobel committee's decision. Wouldn't you say that that tops anything JoeSettler has ever written here for sheer outrageousness and stupidity?

In any case, I'm glad that you do read this blog. Regardless of some of the nasty comments left by some people above, I much prefer to write things for a critical audience, rather than just "preaching to the choir".

You're right about Carter. But Nixon's arms airlift in the YK War quite likely saved Israel's existence. (As a side-effect though, it's the reason Israeli leaders have paid attention to US demands ever since then, usually to Israel's detriment.)

And how exactly would a Nobel Prize help end a war?

Given the state of mind of the people who decided to give Obama the Nobel Prize, I think the reference may have been to the war on drugs.

I don't think this Anonymous really reads this blog very well or that often if he actually wrote that.

The armslift was very important, and is a vivid example of Nixon's pragmatism.

In terms of human life and freedom, however, there is another realm beyond the armslift: Human rights in foreign policy. Here the Nixon-Kissinger "pragmatism" was almost exclusively harmful to the "tzelem elokim" that is humankind. Think Russia and China. That is what I was referring to.

We today have 1.5 million free, productive citizens of the State of Israel (25% Russian immigrants) because people like Nixon and Carter (on the right and the left) were replaced by administrations that valued life and freedom (e.g. Reagan) or at least saw the political need to respect them.

That's kind of like giving an Oscar to a director-wannabe who hasn't even made a film yet (let alone a good film), and saying: "Now that he has an Oscar, hopefully, this means he can make a good movie."

I also deserve to win one. I talk with my Arab neighbors all the time, I provide some of them with honorable work, and I'm convincing them all to move to America (for Peace) where they will have a President they respect and who respects them in return.

Lurker said...

JoeSettler: Did you know that Snoopy is a beagle?

Indeed he is. And he was born on the (illegal) Daisy Hill Puppy Farm Settlement.

(Although, in the strip from December 5, 1960, he asserted, "I ain't no stupid beagle!")

JoeSettler: I also deserve to win one. I talk with my Arab neighbors all the time, I provide some of them with honorable work...

I'll settle this:

Neither of you deserve one, and the fact that you claim to point to things you've done is precisely the reason why.

Barack Obama got one for doing nothing -- something in which both of you have already publicly admitted failure. (According to some analysts, he got it for not being George W. Bush -- so the both of you might still have a shot at it next year if you properly revamp your arguments in that direction.)

On the other hand, according to her Knesset speech today, opposition leader Tzipi Livni seems to think that PM Netanyahu is deserving of a Nobel Prize:

"Nine months have passed since the government was established, and it has indeed met its main objective –- you have managed to survive. This is the Israeli government's main accomplishment.

"The second accomplishment, and unfortunately this is how you see it, Mr. Prime Minister, is that you have managed as prime minister to do nothing."

Someone ought to investigate Livni's claim. If she is correct, then there may be a Nobel in the offing for Bibi...

Jameel @ The Muqata said...

Barak is "Efes Echat Shtayim" while
Livni is "Efes Echad Gadol."

Nope. They're all religious (a few are open Hamas supporters - that's always interesting when they knock on the door, and that's also why I always carry the gun), so they won't go near alcohol. And they all work in construction (at least by me they do).

It's amazing. They all want to move to America. Even the rich ones. I could sit with them for hours every day and they will lap up every word about how great America is.

It actually doesn't take much convincing - but getting the Visa or Green Card, that's the real problem.
