Their are those on the Left who actually believe that Israel is responsible for Gilad Shalit not being free - because we haven't compromised and appeased Hamas enough (as opposed to those who think he isn't free because we held ourselves back in the last war to avoid enemy civilian casualties).
But Neturei Karta believe there is no Mitzvah at all to free Gilad Shalit.
I would reverse that question and ask, would there be a Mitzvah to free a captive if he were from Neturei Karta?

Given that view, why should Neturei Karta believe the Jewish people would even lift a finger to redeem an NK captive?
They've got an arrangement with the Palestinians and Iranians. No one is going to kidnap them.
Gee, I think it would be a mitzva NOT to redeem them (although I think the PA/Hamas would kick them out)
I think mentioning NK is purely populistic. A tiny cult, who cares what they do and what they say.
