As he points out, Israel is not saying anything, while all the information/leaks are coming from the other side - but that doesn't mean there is any less cause for concern about the terms.

IDF Operation Protective Edge - August 18, 2014 10:01-11:59pm

11:34pm Israeli officials confirm the cease fire has been extended by 24 hours.
While PA sources are being quoted by Israeli media with a 7 point agreement between Hamas and Israel....Israel denies such a deal has been made.

We must hope that the 7 pt. deal is only PA wishful thinking because Israel gains nothing from the agreement.

10:10pm Prime Minister Netanyahu: "The IDF is prepared for a very powerful and aggressive action if the attacks are renewed"

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon held a security meeting tonight at a naval base in Ashdod. At the end of the meeting, Prime Minister Netanyahu said: "We are jointly leading this complex campaign with determination and responsibility. We are prepared for all eventualities - the Israeli negotiation team in Cairo has been instructed to stand strong on Israel's security needs and the IDF is prepared for a very powerful and aggressive action if the attacks are renewed. In this stormy Middle East, you need a combination of strength and staying power. The IDF has a lot of strength, and the Eternal Nation has proven that we do not fear a long path. This might take a long time and we need patience, perseverance and determination. This combination of persistence and strength will help us achieve the goals of the current operation - quiet and security for all citizens of Israel."

Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon said: "Operation Defensive Edge is not over. As we pledged, we will not stop untill we bring quiet and security. We are prepared for the outcome of the discussions in Cairo, whether they will bring quiet or if someone will attempt to challenge us with an escalation. The IDF is standing ready to respond with great power to any developments. Hamas will not drag us into a war of attrition, and if they try, they will find that they will get much more than they bargained for."

IDF Operation Protective Edge - August 18, 2014 3:30-10:00pm

9:00pm Update: IDF says that tunnels found in Kibbutz are not terror tunnels.

The reason train service between Ashkelon and Sderot continues to be shut down, is due to a 1 kilometer stretch of exposed train tracks which leaves the train open to attack by anti-tank missiles fired from Gaza.

The length of the extension of the current ceasefire is not yet known.

8:57pm Connecting the Dots

JewishPress.com hinted at this today, but you may not have connected the dots.

The Missouri police chief said the agitators in Ferguson, Missouri are not locals to the community.

http://www.jewishpress.com/news/breaking-news/missouri-governor-activates-national-guard-against-growing-violence/2014/08/18/

In Oakland, California, one of the Islamic activists who blocked the unloading of a ZIM ship said that Gazans are tweeting advice to people in Furgeson on how to deal with tear gas.

http://www.jewishpress.com/news/breaking-news/pro-palestinian-activists-blockade-zim-ship-at-port-of-oakland/2014/08/18/

It's a mighty strange comment.

If you want to tell me that Arabs in Shuafat are giving tear gas advice, that's believable. But Gazans? What do they know from tear gas?

Now couple that with the simultaneous riots in England, destroying Israeli products:

In Manchester:

http://www.jewishpress.com/news/breaking-news/anti-israel-bds-protesters-target-kedem-cosmetics-in-manchester/2014/08/17/

And at the Tesco store:

http://www.jewishpress.com/news/breaking-news/anti-israeli-rioters-attack-british-police-and-ransack-supermarket/2014/08/17/

And suddenly things start to look a bit organized and directed.

So what do you think... Random global antisemitism or an orchestrated campaign?

Shabak foiled a major Hamas plot to overthrow Mahmoud Abbas in Judea and Samaria, as well as run large-scale terror attacks on Israel.

Hamas terrorists were arrested in 46 villages and towns, as well as in Jerusalem, over the past 2 months.

Some obvious lessons:
(1) Without Israel, Abbas would not be in power.
(2) Hamas is established in Judea and Samaria, and are just waiting to break out, and only the IDF is keeping them under control.
(3) Hamas is trying to bring Gaza to Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem.

1:12pm Antisemitism in the UK is old news at this point. The real action is happening in the good ol' US of A.

Yet a bunch of Islamists were able to scare off the dock workers in Oakland from unloading a ZIM ship yesterday.

Will it happen again today?

12:29pm Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas sends Floral Basket to North Korean Tyrant-Dictator Kim Jong Un celebrating the "liberation" of North Korea.

From North Korea: "Supreme leader Kim Jong Un received a floral basket from Mahmoud Abbas, president of the State of Palestine, on the occasion of the 69th anniversary of Korea's liberation. The floral basket was handed over to an official concerned on Aug.13 by Ismail Ahmed Mohamed Hasan, Palestinian ambassador to the DPRK."

Female IDF paramedics' fight for life

9:00am Female IDF paramedics saved lives in Gaza during combat.

"On that terrible night, just days after cancelling her vacation abroad and returning to Israel, Staff Sergeant Yonat Daskal lay on the sand of Gaza and looked skyward. The 10 wounded soldiers who she had treated over the last few hours had all finally been evacuated to different hospitals within Israel.

"I looked up at the stars and tried to understand what had happened to me," she said. "I told myself that today is Friday and I should have been with my family for Kiddush, or even in Mexico, but instead I'm in Gaza, in the reserves, and maybe that's what was supposed to happen. Maybe I needed to be there to give my abilities to the wounded, guys from my battalion, 18-year-old soldiers who shouldn't be in my care. What have they had time to do in their life?"

Victory is OURS!

The Nation of Israel and Operation Protective Edge
Uri Shachter – Deputy Brigade Commander Nachal (Res.)

After almost a month of fighting in the Gaza Strip, with all the reactions, I find it important to clarify to the Nation of Israel that we won, decisively. Both from a military and civilian point of view, we have been victorious. From a military perspective we can begin the victory parades. Hamas is on the ropes, the most they are able to do is poke their heads out of their hidey-holes for a second to declare victory (until it gets struck by the next missile). They are unable to rearm from Egypt (something they were able to do with a free hand during the reign of the Muslim Brotherhood). For years Hamas has been building tunnels beneath our towns to use to attack them and we have been able to destroy all the tunnels. Every military goal Hamas set for itself has failed, on land, in the air and by sea.

So why are we giving them the idea that they won?!

Every contact with the enemy resulted in our overwhelming victory.

Every town we wanted to conquer, we conquered within a few hours with the help of our air force and artillery. During the Yom Kippur War (1973) we too were on the ropes having lost 2,656 soldiers in battle. We won, but unfortunately it was perceived in the national mind as a failure. In the current war, our warriors and their commanders who lead from the front, unlike Hamas who prefer to command from behind, went out to battle with a level of motivation that is hard to understand. Soldiers who, even after being wounded, refuse to leave the field of battle just so their comrades won’t have to go into battle without them. Our men continue to fight courageously, even after losing dozens of our best and brightest, knowing that we have returned the IDF to what it was meant to do, protect our civilians.

There are those soldiers and commanders who feel that we haven’t finished the mission and they want to keep striking at the terrorists. That is as it should be. If they left feeling satisfied and complete, that would be a problem. I also don’t accept the perception that the IDF is retreating. Keep in mind that there is a broader and more encompassing picture in the hands of the upper echelons and not every pundit who writes a hysterical article understands the big picture.

The army is free to fire on any position they think is necessary and positions itself wherever it needs to. Hamas and the Islamic Jihad are running to Egypt to beg for a ceasefire while we haven’t even sent a representative. It’s not that they haven’t achieved anything in the current fighting, but they have lost a considerable amount. All the residents in Gaza will return to their ruined houses, destroyed for no gain or reason on their part.

It’s no less important, from a military perspective, to highlight what Israel has gone through during this period. The home front, in all its myriad of peoples, also stood like an unmoving rock (Tzuk Eitan in Hebrew can also be translated this way). It has provided the soldiers and their commanders the support that is so essential to their success.  That is the true victory of the nation.

The goal of terrorists isn’t to conquer land, rather to break down and dissolve the society that it attacks. A month and a half ago, before our sweet, wonderful boys (Naftali, Ayal, Gil-Ad) were kidnapped, the nation was more fragmented than it has been for a long time. The verbal flames between groups had been whipped up to unprecedented levels.

The Charedim were calling the National Religious Amalekites, while the rest of the nation attacked them as extremists. The Charedim were looked at as corrupt parasites. The non religious were seen as heretics, anti-Jewish, and assimilationists. Look what has happened in the last month and a half. The nation and the army together have become unified, full of strength and a deep bond to our shared traditions. Even the media, who in the past has pulled the nation in the opposite direction, has mostly lined up behind us, supporting the surge in fighting and the nation as a whole.

I have seen the nation standing strong on the home front as well. Dozens of trucks from all over the country have come to bring supplies and treats to the soldiers. A father, mourning the loss of son who had been killed in the fighting, drove a truck down to help support his other sons, the soldiers of the IDF.  My own children laugh that I’m unfamiliar with the singer Moki, but he, and other popular entertainers like him, came down to play for the troops, even if they were only performing for a dozen soldiers. People organized themselves to help the wives of those soldiers who received emergency call up notices, helping with shopping, watching the kids and more.  The owners of one successful Hi-Tech company bought tablets for all the wounded soldiers. Caterers and restauranteurs who have come down to provide barbecues for thousands of soldiers to help them keep their strength up, making immense efforts, even though they themselves aren’t religious, to keep the strictest Kashrut so all are comfortable eating.

And it just goes on. The mother of one Charedi soldier who was shot in the stomach wanted me to make sure that he is able to go back and rejoin his comrades still in battle. The Mir Yeshiva (the largest Charedi rabbinical seminary in Jerusalem) sent a truckload of food and equipment to the soldiers. Rabbi Steineman (the leader of the Charedi  community) broke down in tears at his grandson’s Bar Mitzvah saying, “soldiers are wounded and dying on the front, how can I rejoice?” To that in perspective, it’s said when his wife passed away, he calmly informed the paramedics where she had passed and returned to his Torah learning.

On Shabbat eve there are hundreds of soldiers of all stripes and origins dancing together. You have 1500 soldiers listening to Kiddush (benediction on wine on the Sabbath) all answering amen in unison loudly enough to shake the heavens.

A platoon commander who was wounded and in the middle of being evacuated to the hospital demands that his troops, his children, are all accounted for before he goes.

I can relate hundreds of more stories of strength and courage flowing from the soldier, their commanders and our amazing nation as a whole that I’ve heard and seen in the last month.

Let us all give paid to the lie that we somehow lost and Hamas won.

Let’s all make this change together, with our families and with our workmates. Let us all finally understand, THIS is what victory looks like.

An IDF soldier's letter from the front.

From a Solider at the Front. Original in Hebrew....translated into English with a few comments from me. Having been down there a few times, I can personally vouch for the accuracy of this letter. On a personal note, before going down South last night for a pizza delivery to IDF soldiers, my daughter gave me a stack of letters and pictures from children in our community to distribute to the delivery. After giving the soldiers 60 pies, I said, "Wait, I have to give you the letters from the kids..." A soldier stopped everything and said -- "THOSE are the most important...much more than the pizza...and hugged a pile of letters that I gave him."

Am Yisrael Chai!

--Jameel

A soldier on the border writes:

What's happening here in the staging area [area where soldiers prepare to enter Gaza] is beyond comprehension, not rationally, not emotionally and beggars the imagination.

Almost every hour a car shows up overflowing with food, snacks, cold drinks, socks, underwear, undershirts, hygiene supplies, wipes, cigarettes, backgammon and more. They're coming from the North and the Center, from manufacturers, from companies and private businesses, from prisons, Chareidim and Settlers, from Tel Aviv and even Saviyon.

Every intersection on they way down here we get stopped, not by the police, but be residents giving out food. What is amazing is that the entire situation wasn't organized and everyone is coming on their own without coordination between the folks coming.

They're writing letters and blessings, how they're thinking of us all the time. There are those who spent hours making sandwiches, so they're as perfect and comforting as possible.

Of course representatives of Chabad are here to help soldiers put on Tefillin and distributing Cha'Ta'Ts (Chumash, Tehillim, Tanya) for every troop transport and Breslov are showing up to the border and dancing with the soldiers with great joy.

The Chareidim are coming from their yeshivot to ask the names of the soldiers with their mothers' names so that the whole yeshiva can pray for them. It should be mentioned that all of this is done under the threat of the terrorist tunnels and rockets in the area.
Soroka Hospital (in Be'er Sheva) today looks like a 5 star hotel. A wounded friend who was recently discharged told us how the MasterChef truck is parked outside and is preparing food for the wounded.

It goes without saying the amount of prayer services that are going on. On the religious front as well, there are lectures and Torah classes, all the food is obviously Kosher. Shachrit, Mincha, and Maariv with Sifrei Torah. They're giving out tzitzit and Tehilim by the hundreds. It's become the new fashion! The Rabbi of Maglan [Special Forces unit] told me that almost the entire unit has started wearing them, because the Army Rabbinate has been giving out tzitzit that wick away sweat. They're gaining both a Mitzva and a high quality undershirt. We've started calling them "Shachpatzitzti" (a portmanteau of the Hebrew term for body armor and tzitzit). We're having deep conversations late into the night without arguments, without fights and we find ourselves agreeing on most stuff.

We're making lots of jokes at Hamas's expensive and without politics. There's lots more to add but my battery is running low and the staff has been requesting someone give a class on Likutei MoharaN (Breslov).

How happy is the nation that is like this.
