Purim on Chanukah (Ban the Bam)

The Original Sin of Purim was the participation of the Jews at Achashveirosh’s party. I write this as Chanukah approaches, because we will soon seen history repeat itself at the Obama’s Chanukah bash.

400 or so of the Obama’s closest Jewish friends, leaders of the Jewish community and Jewish organizations will be falling over themselves to get a 2 second photo shoot with the Obama.

Leaders of all the 2 and 3 letter organizations (and even the 4 or 5) will convince themselves that in their 2 seconds of kowtowing, they will have the President’s ear where, if they are brave enough, they will express their displeasure with the Obama’s policies against Israel.

Unfortunately Jewish Leaders you are fooling yourselves. The Obama will not hear what you have to say, the Obama will not care what you have to say, the Obama will only note that you showed up and kowtowed to Him.

Dear Jewish Leaders, there is only one thing that scares the Obama – his falling polls, the public dissatisfaction with Him and His policies.

Your going to the Mishte HaMelech will not send him that message. Your whispering sweet nothings in His ear will not convince Him to hear you.

There is only on one message that the Obama will hear.

Silence.

Your non-participation.

If the leaders of the Jewish community, as one, RSVP their non-participation in Obama’s oil and wine party, only then will the Obama get the message. Only then will the media report your message, and only then do you have a chance to redeem yourselves before you repeat the sins of our ancestors.

Jewish leaders – this Chanukah - Ban the Bam.

It is the only way you have a chance of saving Israel and yourselves.

Otherwise salvation and deliverance will come from somewhere else, and you and your organizations will be lost.

Very good parallel.

I think the parallel is trite and there are more than plenty of Jews who fully agree with Obama's policies to pack the house for a Chanuka shindig. So your tearful plea is for naught.

On top of that, why would silence accomplish anything policywise? It reminds me of a sullen wife giving her husband the silent treatment. Those types of marriages never really work out.

You only WISH that Jewish leaders had the self-respect & backbone to boycott Obama. But they don't.

Abbi, you are right about the existence of Jews in support of Obama, but don't be a dope, we are not in a "marriage".

Gong to the party will not accomplish anything "policywise". Silence is a strong way of showing protest, it makes an important statement. If the only groups Obama can get to attend are JStreet and the like, it will be a significant development.

Mr. Gerson, it is AIPAC's official policy to support the policy of the state of Israel. If it's the Israeli government's official policy to freeze settlement construction, why would AIPAC or any other American Jewish org protest Obama for an official Israeli policy?

Whether you like it or not, Israel is most certainly in a marriage with the U.S, and by extension, him. So, yes, it is required to be chummy with him if he throws a party.

Aside from the fact that American Jewish orgs have plenty of their own domestic issues to worry about. So, I don't see them boycotting the White House Chanuka party any time soon.

Obama did this? Yeah, right. Bibi's at fault, as are all the people who voted for him.

What's that you say? Only game in town?

Same thing in Washington...

Achashveyrosh was the only game in town back then too, and the Yehudim were censured for going to the party.

Joe Settler, you more than made up for that &^(%$# you received from Jameel upon his return from his umm "vacation".

And that Shnekel is a real collector's item.

Neshama,

Sorry, but Jameel is right. I simply couldn't hold down the fort in his absence.

Jameel goes away and Bibi is trying to pull a Sharon, Barack is trying to take credit for Barak, and Commenter Abbi didn't move her position one bit.

It's depressing.

But at least Jameel and I have big construction plans in the upcoming weeks. Expect to see it in the news!

And what position is that?

I'm no fan of Obama. However, I am a realist. I think Bibi's demonstrated quite clearly that he's no frier, so he can afford a 10 month freeze.

It's part of playing the political game run by a completely clueless dealer (Obama). Everyone will futz around, but we all know here that it won't make a bit of difference. But we humor him for the sake of the game and yes, for the sake of our relationship because our lives here do depend on that.

That's all it is. But carry on with your histrionics. They are amusing.
