Special Muqata offer for Orange Phone Users (Israel)

Special Muqata Offer -- for RAMADAN! (This month only -- as Ramadan started Friday...) [See Update Below]

If you're an Orange(tm) mobile phone user in Israel, there's a super secret phone offer for the "Arab sector" that can be used by anyone who happens to find out about it (hence, this special notification from Jameel at the Muqata) .

If you send the text message "ramadan" to 999 by SMS, you're eligible for 2000 free minutes between the nighttime (Ramadan party hours) hours of 9:30 PM and 5:00 AM.

Based on the hours my kids have been keeping this summer, this should save us a lot of money.

Don't thank me, I'm a giver....
Update: The 2000 free minutes are apparently only within the Orange network and not to all Israeli numbers.
More details to follow...

I sent the sms... you're being quite serious about this one, Jameel, or are you pulling our legs?

It seems to have worked for me Rav Elan!

Where did you find out about this? Thanks, achi!

Shaul B said...

... or should I say... shukrun? :)

I can't reveal all my super secret sources now, or what would be the point of the blog? :-)

And yes, its legit!

IT WORKS!!!!!

(Not that I doubted our emminent lord, heaven forbid...)

Dude, Ramadan is now? I thought it was around Purim time? Or Chanuka time? Can't they get their calendar organized?

Shaul B said...

Abbi - they don't intercalate an extra month like we do every few years in Adar, so their calendar keeps slipping backward through the solar year.

Jameel @ The Muqata said...

Abbi: The Islamic calendar has no leap days or years...and rotates around the year.

(So sign up now while you still can -- I'm sure Orange is mighty PO'd at me for broadcasting this "classified" information...)

Serves them right for making a "stealth" offer intended to benefit only Arabs!

Thanks, Shaul and Jameel,

yes, I knew about that lack of leap years, it just must be so confusing (not to mention difficult- fasting now is much harder than fasting in March).

D'oh, i just switched from Orange to Cellcom because they refused to offer me any plans that didn't include a 3G phone and internet. But i kept my old orange number. Nyeh, nyeh Orange!

Jameel @ The Muqata said...

Abbi: Plus - fasting in January means you get to party all night for much longer....

Orange just send me a message saying that i sould try again later.
the service doesnt work currently.

Jameel @ The Muqata said...

Yael - Since I posted this -- the Orange service has been overwhelmed with people registering.

I suggest you try again...

YMedad said...

the return message i got was בקשתך התקבלה which means that I am not confirmed but that they received it. is that a changed script Jameel?

YMedad said...

whoops. A second text came in as ההרשמה בוצעה בהצלחה

Jameel @ The Muqata said...

YMedad - Patience! Let us know when you get the second message...

Jameel @ The Muqata said...

UPDATE: The 2000 free minutes might only be to numbers WITHIN the Orange network.

Still checking...

Baila said...

I sent the message. What happens now--will I get some kind of confirmation? How do I know this is working?

Baila said...

...and how long is the offer for? And when is Ramadan over?

Baila said...

Just got a response SMS telling me to try again later. And I will!

faith/emuna said...

um im not on orange so this is not relevant for me, but doesnt orange have a shomer shabbat deal? and if so isnt it fair for them to have a shabbat deal for jews and a ramadan deal for arabs and not to have 'kefel mivzaim'?

Akiva Fuld said...

I have been telling everyone about it. IT WORKS!!!

Shmilda said...

Good thing the confirmation texts don't come back in Arabic.

Jameel, now you can't say that the Arabs never gave you anything (besides heartache). They gave you Ramadan and thus 2000 free Orange minutes :-)

Baila: And when is Ramadan over?

Ramadan is over when Elul is over; they coincide exactly. (The Muslim months and the Jewish months are basically the same.)

Lurker said...

Actually, to be 100% precise, Ramadan might end in certain places on 1 Tishrei (September 19), rather than 29 Elul (September 18), because the Muslims begin the new month based upon an actual report of a sighting of the molad (new moon); rather than using a pre-calculated date as the Jews do in modern times.

Thanks for the tip. I sent the SMS but got back a message to try again later.
Will the ramadan plan work together with the shomer shabbat plan? :)

Jameel @ The Muqata said...

Faith & Israel W: I don't know if the 2 plans work together...

I have a corporate Orange plan that doesnt include Shabbat...(besides, I have to use my phone on shabbat from time to time -so I dont even know if I'd be eligible for the shomer shabbat plan. How does pikuach nefesh fit into shomer shabbat plan?)

Unknown said...

They do not allow for pikuach nefesh officially.

Anyone have an idea how to sign up with a non-sms (kosher) phone?

A friend checked with Orange, they claim that this is has now been blocked for us and is now only for people in the Arab sector (How can they know and don't you have to be Moslem??)

Even someone who started the deal with have to pay.
It seems people should be careful now?

I bet this will make the news as how can you only give something to a certain sector??
and how can you stop the package once someone subscribed???
